Okay, I frankly hate the book. It started out okay, but it went down hill pretty quickly. It's about a Mary-Sue going around with her Mary-Sue problems with her Gary-Stu boyfriend saving her every other minute! He got injected by a brainwashing syrum, but Tris basically said "Oh, dearest Tobias. I love you blah blah blah". I couldn't help but think she was ripping off the Hunger Games. All of the fans deny any relation to the books other than them both being dystopia, but I completely disagree. Are they like the Twilight fans who say "Oh, you just don't understand."? Tris always manages to barely escape every time, that annoys me like crazy! Don't say "Oh, you haven't even read the book!" Because I have! She also treats Tobias weirdly about being claustrophobic, I thought that was cruel. It is still played off as perfect, though. Tobias is like Gale in THG in my opinion... Anyone else agree?
Divergent was disappointing to say the least. When I first read it I like the beggining, until it sttarted sounding like an odd mix of THG, Twilight, The Giver, and Lord of the Flies. The voice was uninspired and unoriginal, the concept interesting but flopped very quickly, and the plot went from mildly intriguing to completely ridiculous at the snap of fingers. The character development just wasnt there (I love character driven fiction) or if it was there, it was so forgettable I can't really remember it anymore. So, I agree.
I found Divergent to be, at the very least, an interesting read, but I found it to be hardly memorable. I liked the ideas, but after a while it became a bit much and a little confusing. Right now, I'm trying to remember details from the book, but only a small number of scenes are standing out in my mind. And, honestly, Insurgent was even worse. It was boring, but I'll probably read the last book simply to find out what happens in the end.
