Yeah, the earlier games were kind of glitchy. I think Sega will earn more buyers now because they're more kid-friendly now then they were about 6 years ago.

Infuriatingly glitchy or no, they're still incredible fun. I have the first three or four as part of "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" for the Xbox 360.

Mortal Kombat, Halo:Reach, Battlefield 3. Mainly, I like fighting games or military platform games.
You?Mortal Kombat is great. I'm pretty much unstoppable when I play as Kenshi or Scorpion. My custom character in Mortal Kombat Armageddon is Abraham Lincoln.
When it comes to military games, I'm more of a general than a soldier. I often have my keister handed to me in Halo and other FPSs*, but put me in charge of the army in Civilization V, Age of Empires, or Europa Universalis, and my armies will crush all opposition.
*(Does not apply to RPG Shooters like Mass Effect, which I am currently beating on Insanity difficulty.)
