Can an e-card option be added to the deviations?

On another site that I have visited before, they have an option to send the photo/artwork out as an e-card. See here for an example: [link]

Just a thought.

Michelle :)

this is a intriguing suggestion and one i'd be very happy to see implemented
one slight negative thing about it I can think of at the top of my head
is if artists have a mixture of written and visual works
some of the written works might get overlooked
but overall I think its a really good idea which i'm in favour of as a option =)

Well, the Share This feature is pretty much the same as an e-card, except there's no email option. Making it email-compatible would be a lot harder than making it compatible with the sites it works with, considering that dA doesn't allow hotlinking and email systems probably don't support Javascript or Flash.

what do you mean they don't allow hotlinking?

You can't put <img src="dA image URL"> onto a web page, or you'd be forced to take it down once the staff find out. FAQ #229: Can I link images from deviantART to my website?

ah like that but... an e-card isn't really a website now is it?

But emails don't support Javascript or Flash that I know of, so they can't use the Pasties system, which means that they can't be regulated like Pasties can. :bucktooth: Imagine the extra bandwidth that gets eaten when people forward and forward and forward and forward an email that hotlinks to an image on dA's servers.

You're probably right although I doubt it would really make more people visit dA seen it's current popularity aready. but I can imagne it would give problems if these e-mails would circulate a lot.

You don't have to view dA itself to use its bandwidth. ;P
