Hello,
I think that you should add "Jabber ID" in the User Display Settings along with ICQ, Yahoo, Skype, etc.
Lots of people are using Jabber as their main (or only) IM service, including me, and I'll be glad to share my Jabber ID with the DA community.

Skype is awesome. Too bad my university blocked VoIP so I can only use Skype for about four months out of the year. ):

By that argument, we shouldn't have any IMP protocols. And what's wrong with people asking anyway?

Jabber is the closest thing there is to an official, open standard for IMP and would cover a range of different services like Google Talk, LJ Chat, etc in one entry.

Yes.
And Jabber is just too popular to ignore it. Especially in the FOSS community... And lots of people here use FOSS.
And really, don't forget about Google Talk :-)

I don't say Jabber shouldn't be implemented, because it's fairly spread, but... You have to understand that by adding Jabber, then it'll be a breach which people will rush into: they'll ask for all the other protocols.

Why Skype was added ? I honestly don't have a clue. :O_o:

Well, I understand that. And yet, you need to implement the most popular protocols: Jabber, Yahoo, ICQ, AIM, MSN and maybe Skype. Others like Gadu-Gadu just don't need to be there. They aren't so popular.
