The problem: When you arrive on DA, if you're not a native english speaker, things aren't always easy. Understanding the way the website and the community works isn't easy.
The idea: Each deviant can specify in which country he lives. This can allow a "localised" link in a part of the website that would contain a quick "introduction" to DA. Help them not being lost.
Why: Maybe you're an english native speaker, or maybe you're fluent in English. But its not everyone's case. Now, just imagine the following : you arrive in a country in which they speak a language that is new to you. Most of the people would like a guide or a quick reference. Because if people are confused / lost on the site, they maybe won't keep a good "image" of it. The image we'd like to give. An huge international community. This community, though it does have people living everywhere, doesn't have anything done regarding people that aren't fluent in English.
How to solve that: On DA, lets say 'we' for the community, have people from almost everywhere in the world, the only condition is an internet access. Among those people, some are fluent in English and speaking another langage. Now, the idea is to have those people (volunteers) creating in their langage a quick guide introducing DA, it's features and the way it works day-by-day. It's not very complicated to do (in my opinion) and should be very helpful.
The benefit of that operation would be to avoid loosing members. If you see accounts that have been neglected, people that don't log in again, did you ever thought about the fact that they were maybe lost ?
So.... we've people spending their time to welcome new deviants, they should also link them to the quick tutorial made in their language.
What a warmer welcome than a welcome done in your langage ? What a better beginning than understanding ?
I'd really had like your support on this idea. Because its not useless, it's not a thread about tastes such as "remove V5..it's ugly". Its a suggestion that should be a step ahead.
More complicated : I'm not asking your support on this idea since its really much more complicated to have that working (a little PHP coding experience and of translation makes that I know the minimum required about that) but translating the interface of DA in most used langages could be an idea too (still on a volunteer basis).
Well, I'm sure the IT savvy people on dA can think of place to put such guides and how to put them up. Personally, I'll gladly write the Danish version if the need arises. Perhaps someone with a good overview of what is needed to introduce to people could write an introduction in English. Then speakers of other languages could translate it, just so we're sure that it's the same introduction people get.
I'm fluent in English but not a native speaker. What I see in my own country is a lot of people who would indeed be completely lost here due to lack of English skills.
Therefore: You have my full support for this one.

FiH 349 - Yeah, I just started counting. We'll see how it goes.
thanks a lot for your support. If you can link this in your journal / signature, I'd be pleased. Or suggest the link to an admin of your choice. I think that your idea of a main english guide that is then translated is excellent since it provides a template.
Have linked it in my journal now. Dunno which Admin I'd mention it to. I haven't been active here long enough to actually have an idea of who the Admins are lol I know they're there, that's it

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
