I have tried several times in the last few weeks to get an answer about this supposed ad "bug". For those of you unfamiliar with this issue here is some reading for you: [link] [link] [link]

I submit to the deviantART community the following theory, something which has been alluded to by many people but perhaps not put into words so solidly:

deviantART has gone back on its promise put forth in the news article of October 26, 2004, which stated:

...if you are a subscriber, all of your pages including detail-view and full-view browsing of your deviations, your journal, your user page, etc. will have NO ADVERTISING even for users who are NOT subscribers.

Moreover, I am convinced that:

deviantART is attempting to brush this broken promise under the carpet.

This is easily evidenced by the fact that the last response on this issue by anyone in an administrative position was that of $hexentanz, on September 16:

Hi,

I'm going to be looking in to this. :) I will reply again later today, once i find out what's up.

There was no response that day, in fact there was no response until three days later when she closed the thread.

That was almost a month ago. Four weeks. An eternity for any business, let alone an online one.

I do not believe I am alone in thinking this either, simply take a look at the threads listed above and you'll see that others are feeling the same way. The administration is getting dangerously out of touch with its customers, and moreover with the artists who make this site what it is, people such as =kkart who use this site to show their work to the world and share their artistic insight with others. Without the great artists this community will become nothing but a glorified image hosting service.

I have made my accusation. I now leave it to the administration to deny this accusation. Your silence will speak volumes louder than any response possibly could.

I await your reply.

I too would very much like to see this resolved or at least addressed.

Today I sent the following note to $lolly, $Moonbeam13, and $hexentanz -
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello. :)

I'd like to bring something to your attention. As I'm sure that you're already aware of, for some reason ads are once again showing up on subscriber's pages. A year ago, spyed promised that anyone visiting a subscriber's pages would see no ads of any kind. Roughly a month ago, this feature disappeared for some unknown reason.

In the community update on September 21st ([link]), it stated that a statement about this problem would be forthcoming. Since then there hasn't been a single word addressing this.

This just isn't right.

As subscribers, we were promised that there would be no advertising of any kind for those visiting our pages. Quite a few other deviants have said that this was the main factor in them getting a subscription at all. If this agreement has changed for whatever reason, I feel that we as subscribers have the right to know why this policy was changed. Or if it's a bug, at the very least we deserve an update saying that it's being looked into.

I find it very disturbing that no official announcement has been made about this one way or the other, despite numerous requests from members of devart.

Please, just let us know what's going on. It's just not fair to keep us in the dark like this.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
-Natasha

I got the following response back from $Moonbeam13 about an hour after I noted her.

" I have directed your concern to $lolly he is the one that should be responding.

Thanks,
Danielle

I most sincerely hope that either $hexentanz or $lolly replies to the note I sent or the notice that $Moonbeam13 passed on to him. I love this site very much, but this continued silence from the higher ups just isn't right. I really, really hope that we'll get some answers. I too am waiting.

Just a minor comment: If you're trying to call bullshit on an issue where you're getting run-arounds and non-answers all the time, ask something very specific, like:

1: Will the adds be there in 1 month?
2: Will the adds be there in 2 months?
3: Will the adds be there in 6 months?

With the answer options: Definately Yes, Very Likely, Not sure, Very Unlikely, Definately Not.

If someone isn't willing or able to answer these three questions within the provided options, you have a very clear admission of bullshit. If you get answers to question 2 and 3 that isn't "Definately Not" then you have an admission of it not being a bug.

They can of course chose to lie, but then you have that lie in writing and that's always a nice thing to have.

vitriolata, I'm going to have to join with you on this, though a late comer to this discussion, (I found out about it yesterday!) I am amazed that this issue has been left unresolved for so long, and is being dealt with, with what can only really be called contempt for the paying customers by (some of) the dA staff.

Doubly worrying is the fact that for every missed day of action, this 'bug' generates additional revenue for dA. Now I don't mind dA making money, I don't even really mind if there are ads on my page for non-subscribers, but that is not the point.... it is one thing to change the policy and go back to showing ads, but to not tell your paying customers, to not inform them, to CONSISTENTLY AVOID the issue and make empty promises highlights a GROSS DISHONESTY somewhere within the ranks of the dA administration.

I don't want 'no-ads' on my page because I *really* care about the non-subscribers, I'm only a recent subscriber myself and ads didn't affect my viewing pleasure that much - but that is NOT the point, I don't want ad on my page because I PAID for a product, one of the features of which is the removal of said ads from my user page when being viewed by non-subscribers. Now if dA turned around to me and said,

"Dear Mr Paying Customer, Unfortunately due to the current market we feel we must revoke the non-ads policy outlined in order to keep dA as a profitable and solvent financial body, we apologise and hope to be able to return to this policy in the future if circumstances allow. With many thanks and deep appreciation for your understanding, the dA Staff".

--- Did we get this? No, did we get an explanation saying what the bug was, and perhaps that it had nothing to do with revenue? No - What have the the paying members of dA got? A few half-hearted, 'pass-the-buck' repsonses, filled with condescending, empty promises that are an embarassment for dA (it *is* beneath you) and an insult to the intelligence of the paying dA members.

Since the administration seems to refuse to adress this issue, I have drawn my own conclusions too..and they are the same as yours:(
Waiting too.

As much as I agree with the basic issue (asking for at least a status update or the general plan), I don't really see how this is a Suggestion. Complaint or Help might've been more fitting, I think.
:iconsaladin:
Erm...I don't see any ads at all on any page...

Is that just me? :o

Other non-subscribed users will see ads on your page.

This used not to be the case.

It's a serious issue for those of us that have paid for the service. Some users use DA gallery pages in a professional cpacity, and having ads on your gallery page makes you look a lot less professional . . .

I agree. I have also posted in the complaints forum, and got no reply.
