I and several other writers were on the sight, many of us fantasy prose writers, and found that the fantasy forum is no longer there. I'm not sure if this has been done with other sub-genres, but it has many of us disappointed, if not upset.
The fantasy community has been slowly coming together, as seen by the groups fantasywritersunited among others. Were it not for the forum I doubt many of us would have come together, as the present prose and poetry forum is too broad and does not allow for a discussion of prose specific genres. Not that it couldn't, but the prose and poetry general board is always overwhelmed with the discussion of poetry, literature and other issues.
I plead, as a fantasy, sci-fi writer, a member of a burgeoning community here on DA, and a subscriber please bring this feature back. If it's just a fluke of site maintenance, please disregard this post.
To my understanding, the forums that weren't very active got cleared out. More likely what is happening here though, is because there is no longer such a thing as Prose->Fantasy so it's kind of hard to have a forum for it. The Literature categories have been completely restructured, or rather, are in the middle of being restructured.

I know about the restructuring, but if it's permanent there are a lot of us who are disappointed. The main writing forum is for prose and poetry, but the conversations and threads are primarily about poetry, not about prose. Further, it's exceedingly difficult to have a discussion about fantasy or sci-fi writing when most of the threads relate to poetry. Prose is a completely different form that requires a different approach to critiquing and writing.
Also, one of the largest reasons the forums went unused, is that people didn't know they existed. It just happened one day that there was suddenly a fantasy and sci-fi forum. Now that we know about these forums, there's been an effort to revive them.
Well, there is zero chance of the fantasy forum coming back since the restructuring has changed the way the literature galleries are set up. It's not like the fantasy/sci-fi section just all of a sudden got its own forum; every gallery had individual forums which are accessible through those specific galleries. No gallery, no forum.
Instead of complaining that there are too many poetry threads, why don't you do something about it? It's not as though you can't post prose threads just because the majority of threads are about poetry. You can just as easily post a thread in the Poetry/Prose forum that you would have posted in the Fantasy forum, with the added benefit of more people seeing it.

The problem with that is simply that there'd be too much traffic on that forum. Adding all the traffic from the poets to that of the prose writers, you have very little time before something got bumped off of the page by new threads. People would hardly get a chance to look at it. At the very least, the Prose and Poetry forum needs to be seperated.
The members of *FantasyWritersUnited have been active in reviving the Fantasy forum to discuss genre related subjects and grow as a community now it is sadly gone. I hope that DA will rethink this or at least seperate forums for poetry and prose, as any thread that is posted in the generic poetry&rose section will be quicly buried in poetry posts.

Yes there is still a fantasy genre under fiction> fantasy/sci-fi. What we'd like is to have a forum under that genre, and many of the other sub-genres, including sci-fi.
I definitely agree. If not a Prose Fantasy forum, at least give us a seperate Prose Forum. Theoretically we can post about prose on the P & P Forum, but any prose-related post immediately gets bumped off by poetry threads.
There's plenty of forums far more empty and far less useful than a Prose Forum. We have a prose category, now all we're asking for is our own forum.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
