Suggetion to clean up the artistic nude category

:iconigorklajo:
To clean up the artistic nude category from copyrighted material, fake photos and similar I would suggest the following.

- Temporary shut down of the artistic nude section. Make it accessible, make the photos visible, but disable new uploads for some time. Reopen it after a decent load of "work" has been removed. ( deviation that don't comply to the TOS, stolen work, and such ).
- Get a category director who'll monitor the activity and can respond to new "unwanted" work within 24 hours
- Responding to reported deviations should work faster. Reporting something and after one week it's still up isn't good at all. Keeping sch deviations in the category encourages others to upload the same kid of content which will lead to even more work for the category director.
- For new deviants, disable the upload function to the artistic nude gallery for the first 14 days. This should prevent or at least discourage people from joining deviantART just to upload some of their non artistic nude photos ( fake PS photos, someones face on someone else's body etc. )

Hope I posted this in the right section now.

I've come to terms that there really isn't a way to stop people posting explicit photos on DA without banning all artistic nudes, and that would just suck.

I just wish there was a better way to filter things so I wasn't always bombarded with explicit close up photographs of vaginas when browsing the new deviations. I know I can turn on the "mature filter" but that also filters out a lot of things that people mark just because of nudity.

Why not just update the way that people can filter things? Instead of just having one option of clicking "Show mature content" there could also be options for explicit photography.

The only thing is that what is explicit is so subjective I can't figure out how you would make the rules. It would be really nice if it included all photographs that are just genitalia focused though.

(All found while browsing new today)
Some photos I wouldn't mind showing up while browsing:

Some examples of photos I would prefer not showing up when I browse:

Filters are good, but unless the user who uploads the photo sets the filter right it'll show up in the category. What could be done is that the new photos from the artistic nude category won't show up on the front page, the Photography or Photography -> People & Portraits category at all. You would have to go to the AN category to see those photos.
A more level filter system for mature content could be an option, but like you said, it would be difficult to make the rules.

The best example to give [link] Userjoined days ago and has over 2,000 pageviews because of the groping animations being uploaded. No artistic merit what-so-ever. Even has an image uploaded of anal spreading that was removed by staff, has been reuploaded and staff have since left it.

I've checked the gallery and currently don't see anything against the rules.

1) That's a horrible idea that would alienate a huge part of the deviantART community and could easily cause some of our artists to leave. The legitimate artists should not be punished because of the rule breaking minority.

2) Gallery mods do not and will not ever handle the reports. DeviantART is a company and as such, only paid employees can do the work of paid employees. Besides, all reports have to be handled by professionals because they deal with CP, COPPA, copyright law, etcetera - ESPECIALLY artistic nude.

3) If you have the money to hire the manpower to just make everything quicker, go for it. But deviantART isn't consciously responding slowly, they respond to insane amounts of reports daily.

4) This is a community. Alienating new users from the entire point of this community for two weeks is a sure fire way to make them leave. It's the joy of sharing your art that makes this place any use, and why would anyone be willing to wait around 14 days for that? Besides, while genuine users will lose interest, people who are profiting from posting pornography and copyrighted content will have no problem aging tons of accounts to continue to post with.

1. Would be only temporary and only the upload function. See it as a category maintenance.

2. That's a problem then, if reported photos have to go trough a legal team before they're taken down.

3. Manpower... we need more of those.

4. The 14 days rule would apply only to the artistic nude category. Adding a verification system to speed up this process would be good. If you're genuine and you want to share your artistic work then you'll be willing to wait a few days or go through a verification process.

1. People who sell and rely on the category would not see it as "maintenance". They'd leave and not look back at us.

2/3. Everyone needs more money.

4. So that just means we could still post porn in all the other categories, raising the number of miscats and reports. Weeeee!

1. Imagine two or three days of maintenance, in which you can't upload new nude photos, how much of an effect would it make in you pocket. If the user has 300 high quality nude photos in the gallery I'm sure this user will find buyers for those 300. If the upload is enabled again instead of one photos he/she will upload 3 or four instead of one.

4. People can post pornography to other categories right now as well. We know what's gonna happen to that submission and what's gonna happen to the user if he/she keeps doing it. Pornography get's deleted. What we are talking about are nude photos. We can post those to others as well, as an old user we won't risk doing that, but for a new user such action will have consequences. First the submissions will be deleted, they get a warning, if they keep on uploading, they get a ban. Problem solved. If they come back, the same story. Genuine users won't risk messing up things.
After the waiting period, genuine people will post to the nude gallery. Non legit people, who waited out the two weeks, will start posting to the artistic nude gallery as well, but as we know there are tools for stolen work, pornography, copyrighted material. So I don't see why there's a huge weeee about this. We have to adapt, in the beginning would need a more aggressive approach towards non legit users after some time dA won't be that attractive for the non legit users to share their things.

"Shutting down" the category is not an option. You cannot punish the real artists for the stupidity of the trolls, thieves, and attention whores.

DA does not have enough people to go through all the reported deviations as it is. Most of those people are dunces to begin with. So adding more monitors without significant operational/policy/standard changes is not going to be successful.

I have already suggested the garbage low quality nude photography be put into a new category called Trailer Trash or Nude Garbage. But that is a pipedream since DA would need to change it's guidelines and standards and then we'd need a miracle for the mods and monitors to actually be able to stick to those guidelines.

If you're going to try and clean out the stolen photographs, you need a very active monitor group.
If you're going to get rid of the stupid dick and pussy shots, just outlaw them all. That won't stop the retards with the terrible cell phone nudes, they'll just change their game to fit the new rules, but at least we won't have to see dirty vaginas and little pricks as often or up close.
