It would be really great if there was a simple image editor available when submitting art. That way, artists that don't have Photoshop or their own image editors (and there are a lot of those) would be able to edit their work when submitting. It wouldn't have to have a lot of options - just cropping your image, and adjusting the brightness/contrast. I think that would be quite enough.
There's something there like 'import image' or something like that. I don't use Muro but I know you can add images to it because I have done so before.
I'm not talking about a complex image editor on DA.
I'm talking about having something like a simple crop/adjust brightness/contrast option, like MOST social networks nowadays have.
It would make lives of artists much simpler. I had the pleasure of working with lots of talented, intelligent, educated people, who simply couldn't afford to go through the trouble of finding the perfect image editor and learning how to use it. I've seen beautiful paintings and drawings go unoticed here, because they weren't edited properly. I just thought it would be great to make peoples lives easier.
The question is - would having these crop/brightness/contrast options really bother you that much? Why are you so against it?
More of a point is in the fact that deviantART is art-oriented community, and something like the inline-basic (crop, brightness) editor or images would be extremely useful. Heck, almost all non-art communities already have it (and for stupidities like editing your profile picture).
It isn't the question which editor to use, but would it be helpful to have simple editor in art upload area. And GIMP is an awful advice for someone who doesn't have much experience with photo editing of any sort. Powerful, but demands knowledge on the topic.
But the point is, that editor would be extremely welcome for e.g. croping the painting photo for some people that don't use digital programs for enhancing art.
And no matter what you do as art, you had to learn the skills to do it somewhere, so learn the skills you need to accomplish what you want. I have a friend that can't touch a computer without breaking it, but at least she learned how to crop a photo.
There are many editors that people can download for free, or even find online.
I guess it would be interesting to have a simple one, but at the same time, I just feel it'd be a clutter and wouldn't entirely be useful for the majority who actually do have editors, etc.
Like you say there is already lot of those, and if you don't have one you can download a free one. No need to add such kind of feature that will add nothing to DA.
