A member of my group submitted a number of images to one of the galleries in my group. They were nice images, and I'd like to keep them in the group, but I really can't, because DeviantArt's system has been doing a splendid job of thwarting me, as I've tried to move the member's images from the wrong gallery to the right gallery.
I was able to get two of the images to where they were supposed to be, but this is taking all night. Most of the time, as in over 95% of it, when I drag an image to where it ought to be, it doesn't drop in place, it rolls to the top of the screen and ends up on my favorites page. I then have to delete it from there, and start the process all over, again.
There is a simple solution to this problem, and it's been around for years - have a simple drop down menu, from which a group's administrator can choose the gallery to which a deviation is to be sent. Yes, this is antique technology, and no, it doesn't look slick or glossy, but after over a half of a hour of bashing my head into the wall, trying to get DA's system to work, and finding that I have only two successful image relocations to show for my troubles, I find that I really don't give a d**n about slickness or glossiness. What I would like to see is a little functionality, and I don't believe that's too much to ask for.
There are four perfectly good images that I now have to throw out of my group, just because the developers seemed to be more interested in showing off than they were in creating a user-friendly system. At the current rate of success, those four remaining images would take over two hours to move, as opposed to the roughly 12 seconds a user of an "unsexy" menu driven system would need to produce the same results.
This needs to change. You can't ask users to accept that functionality will decline with time.
If anybody is reading this, and has had the same problem, what you need to do is click on the little pencil in the upper right hand corner of the thumbnail for the image to be moved. This opens up a drop down menu that includes "move to" as one of the options.
There is no functionality currently offered for removing the dent your forehead left in the wall, from the aforementioned pounding.
Never mind - I found the menu I wanted, when I went to delete a photo. The functionality is there, it's just not in clear view, which really has been a perennial problem with DA's interface.
