Using block to disallow people to view a gallery as well as req. a membership to view a gallery.

:iconcandidthestrident:
Already DA has an option that allows us to restrict the viewing of our galleries to those with a DA account, but can we take it a step further?
Sometimes there are people we just don't want to see our galleries. An artist I know has stored her entire gallery just to keep one person from viewing her work. (she's had many issues with that person taking her characters and reproducing her work)
It would help artists like her if we could set up our galleries to be viewable only by Deviants and if when we block a person, they are no longer able to view our gallery.
This way we can protect our gallery and then they can't get around it by simply logging off.

Apologies if this has already been suggests.
Mature and reasonable responses only please. There is no need to be brash, rude or sarcastic.

I very much like this idea! I was thinking about way to improve blocking too when I came across this. I was thinking that perhaps there can be certain levels of blocking?
Such as
(Level 1). No comments, favorite watches, etc.
(Level 2). Unable to view their gallery (Your improvement)
and lastly , (Level 3). You no longer "exist" to the person/people you block? ( So, if they look you up, they have no traces of you?)

(Sorry if you don't want suggestions on your topic, my friend has been having trouble, not with art thief, but with someone who used to be her friend, who now constantly stalks her Deviant Art, looking for evidence. Sorry again :( )

No you're fine, I'm glad to get suggestions rather than hostility. It's a nice change XD
I dunno about the third one, but I think the original block plus..let's call it level two blocking, where they can't see the blockers profile and gallery.

I defo think there should be a blocking function on this site.

I come across some fucking idiots on here, who respond to stuff with just dickhead comments... the abilty to just block them would bring much pleasure :)

Well you *can* block them, but it would be nice to keep them from continually viewing profiles and galleries of the people who blocked them. Those are often fodder for the harassers

It would provide a false sense of security. Further, you should understand that by posting on the internet you are not protected.
However, if she is having issues with someone stealing her work, then she should fill out the DMCA form from the help desk. It's the legal version of a report and gets taken care of better and more timely since it's the law, but she has to be the one to do it for her own work and she needs to fill it out correctly and follow the procedures.

As does blocking :U

It's not that they are re-uploading or tracing..the person who is bothering the artist just likes to use ideas developed by the artist and pass them off as her own.

I think she may have tried but it wasn't problematic enough for DA to take action but enough for her to want to hide her gallery for it's safety.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Why not emulate Facebook and enable users to have private galleries, accessible only by deviants whom the owner has allowed to view their gallery? Otherwise, the gallery remains open to the public, as it were.

Well- This is a good idea- i'm sure that if they actually consider your suggestion they will try to at least fix the issues with your suggestion..I think people are looking a bit too far into this though...

All fixtures has its own set of flaws- so it's impossible to find the PERFECT solution to DA's problems. So i somewhat disagree with all the people who are trying to find every crack on this idea.

Banning- doesnt help because like they are saying this is issue with your suggestion- (unless its IP ban) they can simply make a new account- and slide back into DA . Blocking same shit.

So- i think this idea you suggestion is generally well thought out. And it could be a great tool for stalkers and art thieving prevention.
