Seriously, for the sake of us who use anything bigger than 1024x764 for our screen resolutions. You just can't have a wall of text running from one side of the monitor to the other, especially if you're on 1920x1080 or bigger. Things get awfully hard to read. Seriously, if it's possible for messages in message center to have limited width, then it's also possible for threads in forum to have limited width.
I hate the message center's limited lines since like Pika said, bad poems everywhere.
Call me crazy, but I have an enormous 27" screen. That would make reading the forums unbearable... Except I simply browse with a condensed window. It's quite nice. I really don't need 27" to enjoy deviantART to the fullest.
If you use Windows Vista or above, hold down the windows key, and press either the left or right arrow. Congratulations, you have successfully halved the length of the lines in the comments.
If you use Linux, I'm sure you can either find or write some variety of package to do the same.
(TIL that win + left/right on Windows does the same thing as dragging windows towards left/right part of the screen, but linux (KDE) equivalent is not yet in sight. Probably because of the abundance of possibilities.)
Unfortunately , that wouldn't do the trick as Opera, despite being superior browser, forgets to resize the page when you resize browser window.
I long ago wrote a Stylish style that removes the width limits, and when I see comments without that style I scratch my head wondering why the person is hitting enter at such random times
I actually don't like the 7-13 words per line (or whatever it is) that the message centre does. Well, I'd actually prefer somewhere like 20-25 words per line, too, for both message center and forums. And if those updates are made, I don't think thing will be much better on 1920 pixels of width. Sure, on 1600 thing is on the limit of readable with this, but it'll still be a pain for 1920 pixels of width.
This is how it's done properly.
And this is how it's not. (Anything over 30 words per line is a huge overkill)
