Absent watchers...

If you are good or have a lot of friends, you will have a lot of watchers. However, if you're new and you have a few watchers who are absent or just do not comment, fave or probably look at your work, shouldn't you have the right to make them un-watch you?

Shouldn't it be the artists business whether or not he has an active following or not? How can one get feedback on his work by watchers who are never there?

So, should users have the power to remove people from their lists of watchers, so they can see who is actually following them? Or even just categorise the users on their activity so they know who to ask, talk to, follow and who (If it applies) to aim art towards to keep the fans happy?

Suggestion - Force un-watch watchers/ categorise by activity.

Your thoughts?

You can always block them. ^^

Blocking seems too harsh  If you check my replies to other people, you would see a more fruitful suggestion :)

Yeah, probably. ^^; That was the only thing I could think up. I would never block ay of my watchers, I'm happy to have them whether they are really active or even just a little bit. I know what it's like to get busy with real life and forget about dA, so I never hold that against anyone. ^^

Fair enough :) My other suggestions to commenters was just a notice to watchers if they haven't visited a users page/gallery in a while, nothing forceful, just a hint :)

 No. You don't have the "right" to force anyone to do anything on this site.

If there was editing powers for OP's on this site, I would have fixed this by now...

There is no way you could fix that statement that would make it appear less bad.

I would have got rid of the statement, look at the replies I've made to other people and you'd see why :)

I'm probably resurrecting a dead argument, but I know I have been INCREDIBLY beyond busy in the past like... half a year. My freetime has grinded down a halt basically. I get maybe a couple hours a day. And that time may or may not be cutting into valuable sleep time.

I know I'm not an active watcher. I hardly get a time to go through my messages (which have shamefully accumulated up to nearly 6000 devwatch messages). I watch a lot of people, mind you, and I don't really have the time or patience to check every single one of them. I communicate when I do and when the interest strikes me. But when I watch someone, it's because I once had an overwhelming desire to view that person's artwork again. Now, it's not to say I can do now, or later, or even within the next few months, but I do want to be notified of when that person makes artwork.

The system or feature you're talking about it already in place in terms of the message system. I'm already notified that you made new artwork. The number I have keeps growing and growing as my time dwindles away with all the school work I have. I do want to go through them all and view them, but I would be absolutely upset if I was un-watchified by that artist. It kinda feels like, "Oh, hey, yeah, I haven't been looking at your stuff, but... really? You don't even want an automatic system to notify me of your artwork anymore? What pain and suffering would my inattention cause you to think you're better off without me? What real work or effort or time or pain is caused by just letting your messages pile up?"

I mean, as artists, we do our work either for ourselves, or for others. Our watchers owe us nothing, not even their attention. Throwing away a watcher seems completely pointless to me. If you want to know who is actively engaged in your work, just read your own messages. They'll tell you who's watching, who's faving, and who's commenting. Pushing away those other people is throwing away potential active watchers. If you really want people to be more active, then be more active yourself. If you want to know who visits your page, there is already an app for premium members who get to see their latest viewers. I don't mean to sound argumentative, but... it kinda seems stuck up to push those people away. Sounds like you're pushing people away because they didn't have the time to view your work.

Wow, Necromancing threads here :D

Don't worry about sounding argumentative here, it seems a lot of people got a bit rowdy on this topic :D

The un-watching idea here was a bad one I'll admit, but what I did say to others what could be done was an automatic notice if someone hasn't visited your page in the past couple of weeks or say, last 5 deviations you uploaded. And I don't mean just looking at the thumbnails, I mean looking at the page of the submitter or a page in their gallery. And by notice, I mean a slight hint e.g. 'Hey SoupyAssassin, you haven't visited ??? page in a while, here is what they have been doing recently /Link to gallery or newest deviations/'

So nothing too forceful and nothing so annoying you'll be spammed with them :D
