Different front page system

I am frankly exhausted of seeing the exact same artists in the exact same place with different art daily/weekly. I discussed this with a friend;
I personally think having a "random from x many most popular in x category" would be much, much better than the "top popular in x category."

Say, for example..
There's 20 "digital art fantasy" drawings that reach past a number of views or comments - these twenty would be shuffled per refresh/click to main page..

Why? Because I'd like to find some new artists, with good art, without risking the disgusting things that often find the "newest" tab. (No, really, I've seen images on the front page that are just creepy - like a man shoving fish in his rearend, photograph. Or the many a-plenty vagina shots.) Even if I did turn my censor on, many of these gross things aren't censored, and to add, most of the "newest" category is a bunch of lined paper doodles.

So, I'd really, really like to see a "shuffle" option for each category, to help introduce artists that are "slightly less" popular than those that get the daily frontpage.. I'd really love to find new artists here, I haven't found anyone new that I'd felt up to watching in some time... And I'm sure many people are the same, tired of seeing.. whatever it may be, ponies, bad fanfics abusing the image option, so on. You can't avoid them, but you can shuffle them upon refresh.

If you could shuffle or randomise results within a certain category, you're not guaranteeing quality with the results - if it includes all submissions, it would be very similar to Newest, but just stuff submitted at different times. There are SO many submissions to dA every hour that if you click on the category you want to look at and select Newest, you'll find totally different stuff 24 times a day :)

But that's what I meant - I meant "Randomized the top 20 in each category", not just random from it. So it'd be the absolute 20 best submitted that day/week/etc.

I agree with this myself. There is nothing wrong with seeing these people on the front page but they are up there a lot of times cuz their art is already really popular. There have been plenty of others I have found just by chance that are amazing and should have a chance at being on the front. There are plenty that no one may even know about that well that don't stand a chance due to lack of circulation. We're all here to help each other with support here on DA and this would be another way of doing that.

I also agree with how it can be with the 'New' tab with what some disturbing things people put up. That alone made me change it to the popular tab at all to stop seeing such things.

Why aren't you working for dA yet? That's a great idea. They need more people like you who want to shake things up, instead of being fine with how things are. There are so, so, sooo many amazing artists on dA that get virtually no exposure because they're trumped by the "heavy hitter" artists that have a truck load of watchers.
I also know what you mean by the "newest" tab being a frightening, frightening place to visit. More and more people are using dA as facebook/photobucket, I see more new, great art on tumblr than I do here.

I agree entirely with seeing more art/better art on tumblr now.. it's kinda sad, really.. /:

YES. I absolutely agree. I see some artist work on the front page ALL THE TIME and it's not like they're not talented (quite the opposite) it's just that there are so many more good artists out there that haven't even had that chance. This is a great idea. :)

Exactly. I've seen the same exact artists all the time, and while I used to like their art, honestly, I'm getting tired of seeing it, the style's becoming boring due to looking at it every day.. D;
