Profile Skins?

:iconprincessdawn982:
I've looked all over but I can't seam to find what I'm looking for. So I figure to suggest it. I want more ways to customize my profile page. Something like the journal skins or gallery css. Not like user styles where you need a plugin, and only I can see the changes. I love the journal skins, and I just wish there was a way to have something like that but for a whole profile.

Indeed, there might be issues if a user can make their own custom skins. But if there was some premade ones, it wouldn't be too bad. D: I'd like a pale blue instead of the pale gray-green...

Maybe DA should create some 'in built' themes of different colours that are only visible to the user when logged in.. Kinda like what storm-artist has, that works nicely and looks good too.

Maybe if it was like Bungie.net's coup system but make it so it is so difficult to use that most people don't bother with it :D CSS is still hard to use though If you have no idea how to use that sort of stuff...

I think it's bad enough people can customize their widgets with CSS. I enjoy the simplicity of dA's web design because it emphasizes the art instead of taking away from it. When users have fancy backgrounds on their widgets or MORE, it becomes more about the page and the artist's identity than the art itself.

People manage to make terrible journal CSS, and now you're suggesting applying the idea to the entire profile?

There are other ways to express your creativity. Honestly, skinned profiles just look tacky, and give the impression that the artist is still in middle school.

"Skinning" a profile, a la the old Myspace, I believe is a bad idea. Sure it allows people to get creative, but as we've seen with Myspace, the majority of stuff people make are god awful ugly and busy. But more importantly, skinning profiles distracts from the art, and that is the real focus here. Not how much someone likes the color purple or repeated patterns of Dr. Who photos for backgrounds. I think a journal skin is enough. I'm not even sure gallery skinning was a good idea.
