I've noticed that you can't disable downloads for GIF animations. Would it be possible to make it so that downloads of such files can be optionally disabled like it can on other deviations?
You CAN'T STOP PEOPLE FROM DOWNLOADING IMAGES! Period. When you can SEE it, it's been downloaded. All you have to do is save it through your browser if the site won't let you do it any other way.
That's weird, I seem to have the option to disable the download button for animated .gifs Both the old submit page and the new submit page seems to have the option available for me.
Herrrmmm... I think I didn't used to have the option either. How long ago I don't know though. It seems to work on all the gifs I've got uploaded. And we're both beta testers, so I guess it's not likely I'm only able to do it because they've changed something with the beta. I havn't tried turning it off to check though.
I am thinking of the right thing, right? Turning off the download button like this: [link]
Yeah that's exactly the thing I'm talking about. For all I know, they may have made it available and I never noticed since I don't make and upload a lot of GIF animations....
Most my gifs are quite recent, I tried to pull up an older one from 2005 out of my storage to check if it had the disable option, but seems that works that old have no edit button at all. And dA won't even let me take it out of storage now. Maybe them playing with the upload system has given me some glitches.
I would assume that the reason you can't disable downloading is because dA's sizing options can not resize gif images. And since there are no sizing options, removing the download link is rather pointless. As soon as you see any image on the internet, it has already been downloaded onto your computer So, if you are saying this in regards to people "stealing" images, nope. Not possible, nor worth considering.
