New dA user channel

I'm not sure if this has ever been suggested, but what if there were a dA channel for new deviant accounts? As in, when someone first creates and verifies an account on dA, you could see their account scroll in the channel. There are a couple of reasons why it could be an interesting feature. One is that people interested in helping those who are new to the site would have an avenue for for discovering them. We could have volunteer welcome committees that could point out the FAQs, helpful guides and group links, etc to new users. When I first joined this site, it was a little bewildering, to say the least. Yes, I am aware that the main deviant art page has helpful links, but they aren't as effective as real people who know what's what. The second reason is more on the social side of things - it's cool to meet people. Again, when I first joined, it took awhile before I was able to find any like minded artists to converse and collaborate with. Just faving and running didn't do much. Even after I mustered the fortitude to start actually commenting on people's art, it still didn't instantly provide a context for social interaction. Some people have zero problems jumping into a site like this and finding out how things work and who will help them. This might be a shortcut for those that aren't so bold or resourceful.

Also, if someone wanted to be hidden from the new deviant channel, they could disable this feature when joining (you know, for all those ban-evaders and sock puppet accounts;))

Do you mean like it shows a list of brand new deviants? Because if you do, that's already on the today page.

Yeah, I was informed of that earlier today. It did seem like such a good idea that I was a little surprised I hadn't seen anything like it before. I'd still like to have an actual channel, like at the bottom of the page, or maybe even subscribe to it. Also, I still wonder if any groups or individuals use this feed to welcome new users. Maybe it's too daunting a task, considering the sheer number of new users?

I agree, a channel would still be cool.

I don't think there are any, because there are new members coming by the second. (I learned that from refreshing the today page XD) But as an effort to make new members feel welcomed, I give them llamas. :meow:

That's good to hear that you do something like that.

Thanks ^^

I think more people should take the time to make new members feel welcomed. When I first joined, only one person did the 'Welcome to dA' thingy.

Of course at the time I didn't know about the forums |D

I agree. I've been on this site for 4 years and have only found one person who actually takes time to converse. I feel like im missing out.

Yeah, it's tough sometimes to find a niche group of people to hang with. On the other hand, I'd like to consider myself inclusive, so I would be open to talking with anyone.

ahhh. I had higher success at a online workshop for sharing WIPs and artwork then an actual art website. They didn't care about your talent and lots of talent there to learn from and people usually communicated with one another as long as you were interested in art.

That sounds cool. I think that's where some dA groups tend to be more successful at collaboration and feedback than dA at large. Glad you found something that works for you.

The site is dead now though. The guy who made the site (its called artpapa.com) changed it into a site called art1.com. He's now trying to cash in on the idea of highly skilled artists helping amature artists by making people pay for subscriptions to his website. He is also a very skilled artist himself.
