I notice there isn't a file type restriction when you go to upload something. If you check it out, it'll say "Any File(*.*)".
I am not complaining - I am merely pointing out something, as my suggestion should help out new members of this site, as it might discourage them from uploading their work.
Suggestion:
If the uploader selects any visual art category, the "Open File" dialog box should only accept popular image types, such as JPG, GIF, PNG. There may be more listed. I want to keep it brief.
If the uploader chooses to upload in any Literature category, it should only accept the file types it will allow, such as TXT, PDF, or HTML.
And, if no category is chosen, the page should fire a popup that asks the uploader to first choose a category.
The reason for this suggestion is so the uploading process can be simplified.
Category restrictions are already in place for submitting. I think the "All Type" shows because they would be in the sta.sh section until they are given a category and submitted. That's when the distinctions will be made and one wouldn't be able to submit the wrong file in the wrong category. That message warning already appears. So while you can still upload a .gif work as it would be still in sta.sh you wouldn't be able to submit it in the Literature section while you go through the submission process.
No…… it lets you know after you've chosen the wrong file type. What I am suggesting is that the dialog box goes according to the selected category, so to avoid having the error message.
It let's users know when they are selecting a category and submitting. Otherwise when it's in the sta.sh (which I am referring to above), it doesn't show since nothing is pre selected as a category. sta.sh is outside the category system.

What do you think of my idea?
