points and currency converter?

Now, I was discussing this a little with a friend and even if the suggestion is laughed out of the forum i can still say i have made it anyways,

points to dollars - the conversion is easy enough but i was wondering a little about other currencies as this is after all an international site.
what if dA could create a widget that is somewhere between points and currency converter, it might be something useful for people gifting points to friends for specific purposes - but only want to say sent a set amount of euros, or Australian dollars or UK pounds worth of points etc.
i know i when i need to work it out have to hunt the internet for a currency converter hence this rather random suggestion.

gives me another idea ... how does the currency work with inflation?
lets say (for example... ) the euro becomes less and less worth due to any misterious reason.
then converting your euro's into DA points might be a good idea...
then when the coin stops inflating you can convert back and have more euro's then you started with ;)

:giggle: it might be an idea for expansion if they did include a currency converter in the future, but chances are it is too larger and undertaking so changes are won't happen but hey a suggestion is a suggestion

Or you use a currency converter like the one found on xe.com to convert your currency to $US and multiply by 80 to get the points value. dA doesn't need its own currency conversion system. As currency rates always fluctuate, it's a rather large undertaking to have a built in converter. Points are set static to the $US, which is fluid against other currencies. The most reliable way is to convert a currency to $US and convert by that as points are fixed to the $US.

Well hey, I find it to be a good suggestion. But I don't know how getting points work here, I've never really received any, so I don't know.

they're sort of a within dA currency almost 80 points = $1 & generally you collect em and can use them to update premium membership or put towards prints and such

This link shows how you can convert all the money you make into Points: [link] . Unfortunately, you cannot reverse the transaction, nor can you convert Points into a cash balance.

As for currency conversion, all I can say is, hope for an Admin to suggest this idea for the next meeting, or contact the Help Desk with your suggestion. If you want to contact the Desk, though, try to choose a category that is most fitting. Most likely, the General Inquiry is the best shot, unless there is one that is better to use.

Good luck!

that much i know :) i've done it a few times before now, and i guess i can just see how my suggestion is taken, mainly the opinion is its too much hassle, or of course in one or two cases currencys other than the US dollar don't count

Personally, the idea sounds great. Why can you convert money to points, but not the other way around? Probably it's easier for DA staff to keep it like this, but points, while being easier to operate on during contests (and commissions maybe), for some people make difference. For instance, in Central Europe points are far more expensive to buy in native currencies than if you buy dollars or even British pounds in those Central European countries such as the Czech Republic, Poland or Slovakia. It's not right, because for nations that use dollars or similar currency points are relatively cheap, whereas in other parts of the world the smallest amount costs as much as a good CD. And probably for those artists that sometimes may need money urgently, who accepted POINT commissions, but happened to need some cash after the deal could convert them. So the idea may work.
