As an administrator of several groups, I have seen the need to post group blogs/journals to a specific category. I am aware that the category selection is present at the time a blog entry is submitted via the group, though at the moment, it is pointless to change it. It reverts back to the Journals > Personal category. I have recently posted many group blog entries that would be better categorized as Culture > Contests or Culture > Projects.
I am aware that Sta.sh can be used to submit journals to specific categories and then submitted to a group. However, these journals do not appear as being written by the group, and so would appear in a member's message inbox as a gallery item (I'm assuming) instead of a journal notification.
Enabling these categories would provide deviants with a better means to search for contests hosted by groups, via category, as well as news and other articles of interest. I heard that the ability to submit group journals to a "News" category is being discussed, and I strongly suggest that it does come to completion.
Tell me, unless the group was of this nature as a whole, how many group blog/journal entries were "Personal"?
If the blog category changes back to Journals/Personal after you've selected Culture/Contests, then you should report that to the +help desk as it is not meant to be that way.
If you submit a journal through Sta.sh to your group, it appears as a blog written by the group, journal notification wise. It would not appear in a member's message inbox as a gallery item if you have directly written the blog to the group in Sta.sh.
Thus, what you are suggesting are features that already exist on dA. For the things that don't work such as the first point, you need to go to the +help desk for it.
I have contacted the help desk a while ago about this and it seems this is actually just a current issue and should have been resolved already (don't ask me why it hasn't). But rest assured that you SHOULD be able to put group journals in other categories than Personal, it's just currently not available.
