Create the Ability for a Single User to Block Certain Categories

I would really like for there to be a way for an individual user to block certain categories that they don't want to see. I am really tired of seeing crotch shots under the "Artistic Nudes" category. I would prefer not to see this category at all as I think it takes away from the overall credibility of this site. However, I realize this is just my personal opinion and that the no one should have the right (outside of the administrators) to censor art. I just want more control over what I see.

If there is already a way to do this, please let me know (I would be willing to get a premium membership if this option was available). Also, I have no desire to filter out mature content, after all, good works can be of a mature nature.

For those who are stupid enough to post reply "don't like it, don't look" I will save you the time and trouble of doing so by stating there are some things you can't unsee, especially if they're mixed in with the random art.

Also, I'm sure this has been suggested before, but perhaps if there are enough similar suggestions, the administrators will take note and perhaps take action.

The problem i see with this is that we'd have to trust people to put their submissions into the right categories, something that is entirely subjective.
So if you blocked out the category you'd still get a few results that were incorrectly placed.

Being able to block certain subcategories when browsing might be nice.

You mean something like a tag filter? And something like the Beta feature of " More Like This" but the opposite? I'm with you.

How exactly are you thinking this should work? Should your settings be applied when you log in, and the opening page not display those works? That's really the only way I see it being useful at all, since you control what you see the rest of the time.

And of course, there is that it wouldn't stop you from seeing things that are entered under a different category. If you want to block all panty shots, you'd probably end up having to block almost every category, not just artistic nudity. Certainly most of the photography.

Settings would be applied when you logged in. It could be as simple as blocking a category while perusing the site, example: While looking a the newest deviations I encounter a crotch shot. I click on the category from where the work was submitted and there would be an option to block. Also, a few misplaced photos here and there would be acceptable. The world is imperfect--I wouldn't expect deviant art to be any different.

Or--and I think this would be more complicated--while adjusting the settings during account creation one could click off on categories they think could offend them...though I don't think that would be the best idea as I think people would miss a lot of good art that way. The only way to know if you'll dislike something is if you actually experience it.

I haven't really encountered that many crotch shots outside of artistic nudes, fetish shots and the mobile apps category (I think that's what it's called). I'd say a majority of the nudity I've seen on this site has been in good taste; please don't think that I object to all nudity--it's just the Hustler rejects I dislike.

lol no, I understand. I'm not real thrilled about all the softcore porn popping up around here.

And I think your idea's pretty good.

especially if they're mixed in with the random art.

Then doesn't that defeat the intent of blocking certain categories?

I don't see how. The goal would be to look at random artists minus that particular category.
