Account reliability. Who to trust?

Sometimes I read threads, where people were looking for people to collaborate with or to publish their works, however when I checked their dA ID page it was completely blank.

I understand that you cant post on people's pages without having a dA account, so some people make accounts just for the purpose of trying to contact other people. But their pages are so empty that you have no idea of who they are and if they are reliable.

I'm not sure about you guys, but it makes me really uneasy when I see those empty pages. Even seeing the default dA icon makes me a bit nervous.
I start thinking. "Are these guys for real?" Or "is this a scam, how can I trust them when they have no examples of their work?" This is an art website after all, so the lack or anything, even customization makes me wonder if they can even do art.

I know this isn't a suggestion... Exactly. Just a thought.

Does anyone else trust these empty accounts?

Also, what do you think would be a good way to make these accounts more creditable?

If you don't trust them, do not work with them.
There is no way of giving a seal of legitimacy to people, as some could fill the blank spaces with stolen or obscure artwork and still scam people.

What kind of person would you trust then?

There are many ways you can investigate your target in order to determine wether or not it's worth the risk to trust in that person.

Namely, don't limit your proofs of authenticity to artwork they claim to have made, check their activity to see what that person does, what he or she talks about, posts, forums they visit, etcétera. If they have it hidden, then google their username and/or real name, find out as much as you can from that person by any means that are not their word.

The point being, never trust anyone's word. Find evidence that supports their claims. Demand emails and contact numbers of corporations or clients they have had in the past and make sure they're varied and plentiful, so that you can contact said people and ask them about how it is to work with said artist.

Then, if you gathered lots of data you can easily determine who and what kind of persons they are, based on that you can decide wether or not you can afford playing with fire.

that's a good idea to google their name if their activity chart is hidden, I haven't thought of that before.

I see where you're coming from but if you yourself plan on dealing with someone like that it would - like `nokari said - be your own responsibility. And if you are looking for someone to collaborate with or anything of that kind and you aren't sure about these people then simply disregard them.

Have you ever dealt with any of these people before or did you just ignore them?

I have gotten messages from several people that would fall in this category asking me if I'd be interested in joining in game development projects because of my pixel art but since I am not planning to go anywhere beyond hobby with this branch of art (and any other for that matter) I always declined immediately anyway.

I see. Do you do art trades or other collaborations with other people/ not blank accounts?
