I like that little "Professional/Student/Hobbyist" subtitle next to people's names, but I wish we had a few more options. "Hobbyist Digital Artist" could mean SO many things. Why not things like animator, director, illustrator, designer, sculptor, writer, poet, etc? We used to have so many options for our profiles, so why limit them to only nine?
I'd much rather be an animator than a "filmographer." (Really, what IS a filmographer?)
How about the option "freelance", instead of the list with three options?
The three options, none apply to me (but I have picked hobbyist, even though, I do not consider myself such).
For decades, I considered myself an ameture(sp?), or freelance artist... but the choices were "professional" (which I am not), "student" (which I am not), or "hobbyist" (which I never heard of, until I saw the limited three choices).
I'm still not sure what hobbyist is (never took the time to look it up). I know what a hobby is... but art is not something I would call my hobby.
I am "freelance" (relative to professional). I want that option (in addition to the other three).
Well, if you make money off your art, then you're a professional. Freelance would fall under that category, and I'm not entirely sure that freelancers wouldn't take offense to there being the option between Freelance OR Professional. XD
I agree. :-/ For a site that's supposed to represent us as an artist, you'd think ARTIST TITLE would be #1 priority! Such a major factor that is so quickly overlooked. but I disagree with the comment here about joke titles "hobbyist ninja" >,< PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, no. Deviantart is already taken as a joke by many professionals in the industry as this is quickly becoming DeviantFacebook. I'd like to TRY to keep it as pro as possible. Since people can choose their own subtitle/name, there's no real need to make a joke of our artist title.
