I mean like if someone messes up on a comment and they spell something wrong, they can click the pencil in the corner and click edit post and then they can change the comment all they want. Like they can change like 'this is good' to 'This art looks amazing! Epic!'
I'm Ok with the ability to edit IF the previous version of the comment could still be viewed by the general public, i.e: It would say somewhere in the comment when it has edited with a link with something like "view history" where you could see the previous version of the comment.
There isn't a good reason why not to have an edit button. Every other major forum and online community utilize some sort of edit feature. Hell even Gamefaqs, who have the most nazi mods, have an edit feature now.
Will people abuse it? Maybe a few. But mods should still be able to moderate it.
The lack of an edit feature is the sole reason why I don't visit this forum that often.
Oh hey look at this. I came up with a few more things to elaborate on, and I have to double post vs editing my main post. Nobody likes double posts.
Mods should be able to see the previous post before the edit, so anyone who thinks it would be abused, think again. It just depends on how they code it into their system. Ever use facebook? If someone edits a thing there, you can check the history of the edit. You see the original post, and any edited version of said post. It's as simple as that.
Here's a report of a comment that I made in a similar thread:
If anyone is interested, I started a poll regarding this very issue: HERE
My personal opinion is that we should be allowed to edit/hide/delete our comments throughout this site. While some may say "just double-check before you post" and so on, many of us already do that but we're only human and we all make mistakes regardless. So it's only right that we should be allowed to correct those mistakes instead of having them publicly archived on this site and even ridiculed by other members.
And to those who are concerned that this feature might be used in an abusive way, like to make a serious threat against another member and than edit the comment before it can be reviewed by staff, I have an idea for that. Perhaps the Violations section of this site could be altered so that it will either lock the reported post in question so that it can not be edited or deleted, or it could take a snapshot of the reported post so that it can be reviewed as it was at the time of the report regardless of whether or not the original post was edited. And if someone were to edit their abusive post before it is reported than either the post wasn't taken seriously enough by anyone to be reported in the first place or it simply wasn't up long enough to be seen by anyone including the recipient of that post.
But anyway, that's just my opinion. Not everyone will agree with it.
If it were to be implemented, I would recommend them having some kind of restriction. Perhaps only being able to edit a comment up to one minute after it's been posted or something.
