Uploading .doc, .docx, etc, for literature submissions.

Exactly as the subject says.

Instead of having to manually copy and then reformat all your text, being able to directly upload your .doc, .docx, or other common text file formats would make things a LOT easier.

Especially for those that tend to upload very long things, or multi-chapter works.

I like this idea as it comes down to a matter of convenience. I would love to use Sta.sh Writer, but I'm not always connected to the internet, where as I am always connected to Microsoft Word. Converting to .PDF I'm not a big fan of as it means I have double ups of files and I'm pedantic about cluttered folders. To be honest the lack of support for .doc and .docx is something that has always bothered me and made me wonder why it has happened yet. Any insight onto this?

My thoughts are that it's because converting MS .doc/.docx files to the system doesn't work properly and formatting gets lost or because people tend to use formatting dA can't support and therefor causes errors in the conversion. Or it's because it's possible to create .doc files that carry viruses.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the explanation!

You could use st.ash - it retains the formatting.
I quite like St.ash Writer.

You can already upload PDF files. OpenOffice has that as a direct export option for documents, Microsoft Office might need an add-on depending on your version.

You do need a preview picture when you upload the file so have one ready if you try it.

You can copy/paste into Sta.sh and it should retain the same formatting (except for formatting that is specifically not supported by dA). If it doesn't, then try using a different word processor or write directly in Sta.sh instead (it auto-saves drafts).

:iconagreeplz: It's frustrating to reform everything manually. :paranoid:

Particularly when you have over 10k words filled with formatting... Bold, italics, underline, etc. Not to mention all the line breaks! :X
