Record of Purchasers of Premium Content

I like using the Premium Content Feature but there is one big problem I am dealing with at the moment. When people make purchases for the rights to use my content I have absolutely no way of telling who made the purchase. So I am left to wonder or embarrassingly ask people about who purchased or did not purchase the content before using it. Often this leaves my customers on the defense because they think they are being accused of copyright infringement when I am only trying to figure out who purchased and who didn't.

It would be really awesome if deviantart could make it so that a seller could see which DA account bought what from their store so that we could painlessly check for who has rights and who doesn't. Most other sites I have used online have selling systems like this so that you can keep track of buyers. =)

Also I still stand by having a store front for premium content just like the print shop.

And maybe a system to help users tell the difference between commercial use content and private use content. ;)

Anyone else have anything to add?

This is one of the reasons I have no use for the sales system in its current form. It doesn't make a lot of sense to withold from us who has purchased the liscense to use our work. With the print shop this is not a concern because no rights are changing hands with the sale of physical products and the only party who needs to see the buyer's information is that which processes the payment. Selling resources is different. I'd prefer DA did not go down the route of other impersonal stock sites which are not artist-focussed and the sellers have very little control.

If DA does not trust buisness owners (which we are, if we are taking money, and should be registered as such) with the name of the buyer they are trying to sign a contract with, perhaps a sales platform was not the way to go.

Agreed! We are business owners or can learn the responsibility of being business owners. In other sales I do, not only do I know who my customers are, I know their address and other information so that I can successfully send them their goods. If we cannot keep track of our content leasers then how can we conduct business properly?

I would endorse this ideas as well, I considered posting some art with the ability to have users purchase it for personal use, but realized that this could not be protected as no one knew who was using it.

Yeah, it makes it a rough choice as a content distributor. Hopefully they will find some way to remedy it!

That would be a good idea. That away, people can trackwhat's going on.

What if you included a "password" in the download file? Then, you could politely ask people for it, and when they give it to you, they'll know you believe them, and they won't be defensive.

A little complicated, but a decent fix until DA does something about it.

That is a good consideration! I think I will do that for the mean time. =)

I agree. If not a list, at least a message in the message center that says something a long the lines of "UserX has bought 'Deviation A' for 500 points". That way you can thank them if you like, or not.

Exactly, and possibly a section in the "My Earnings" section that keeps a record of that information.
