Art supplies in the store so that people who have points can buy them from there. dA branded art supplies.
So people can be bought art supplies as gifts or given points toward them.
Pencils, art paper, paints etc, small but useful things.
I don't know how possible or feasible this is but I just thought it might be nice, plus it would make sense to me for the leading art site on the web to provide supplies for it's members (at a price that would make it viable).
If they can have generic mugs and items in the prints store to use, the thought is that maybe they would be able to have generic pencils and art pads with dA branding.
LOL- I didn't see this thread. Funny. What's really funny is I just posted the same suggestion and we have the same character for an icon. Great minds think alike eh? LoL
Personally I think its a great idea- I don't see how anyone could disapprove of it. I mean, DA wants revenue right? And they are directly related to the one market that wants art supplies most right? What could possible be the problem with that. They don't need to carry everything under the sun, just basic stuff, Wacom Tablets, Paints...simple stuff that better reflects their audience's needs. I mean, really...what's the problem?
They don't need walmart. If it exists in their country, they can get it with less transport cost than have it shipped from dA. And unless by miracle they can lower the price of the supplies and the shipping cost, it would just be diluting what their core function is. Just because they can sell doesn't mean they should. Branding is important. If dA intends to be similar to walmart and sell pens, colour pencils and everything art related out there that's fine, but that's not its purpose and feature to this date. Specialization is important. Anything can be art related, even specialized peacock feather pillows as art materials. Would dA like to be known as just a nth number of art tools supplier?
*sigh* well the idea behind it was for people who had no access to art stores.
I don't know if it would lower the cost, it would probably make it higher. I hope you at least see the thought behind it though. To help out those less fortunate than ourselves. ._.
For some large ones it could be fine. Like I said, if they can reduce the pricing and shipping, it could work. Say someone could buy wacom products from them. But there are other very good stores that sell traditional supplies or digital ones. It kind of falls on what they do with the pricing and stuff. Not to mention, they are going creating a brand of their own. Just selling others stuff, or rather slapping their own sticker on those and selling them doesn't suit well. But as a part reseller it might for large things in low cost.
I actually think that's a pretty cool idea. dA to sell some things like brushes or pens and pencils and possibly up to tablets and some other things for arts? It would lead to investing in other companies as well so this idea could be fruitful to a number of people. A dA branded tablet would be kinda cool as well.
I live in a small town in Idaho, the closest art store is 3 hours away. And with all the hype out there about what's the "best" in art, I find it hard to really know what kind of quality control I'm getting. I think if they sold the best of the best, then this could be an amazing idea.

Apologies if this is a terrible idea.
