Custom watermarks

I know, I know, This was suggested serveral times bevore, but I just want to bring it back in focus.

It would be great if it would be possible to add a custom watermark to an artwork via deviantART, just like the usual dA watermark.

To do so a artist should be able to upload a watermark file via their options menu. When uploading an artwork, their should be a checkbox with "Add custom watermark", or better, just use the existing watermark checkbox and replace the dA watermark with the custom watermark.

I know, this could be easily done by every artist on their own while editing the pictures before upload, but this feature would improve some aspects of the watermark handling:

  • Even arstists without knowledge in using graphic editing software will be able to add their own custom watermarks.

  • The quite big general dA watermark could be replaced be a more subtle one.

To minimize the computing effort for the upload servers, some restrictions on custom watermarks could be made, such as resolution restrictions or watermarks only in grayscales/black and white.

As seen by many threads on this topic before such a feature is highly desired and a big part of the community would be pleased, if you could add this feature.

Thank you in advance!

Wouldn't it be easier to add them on yourself?
Me, for instance. Instead of watermarking, I sign my works in a place that'd be difficult to remove or edit over.

As said before: I agree, that for a big part of the community it's more easy to watermark their work before upload. On the other hand, there are still some deviants, who don't know (or don't want to spend the effort to learn) how to add a watermark.

An additional plus point would be, that you could upload and watermark your work from every PC/Mac/whatever... whitout the need to have a graphic editing software installed on this machine. This could be usefull for deviants which travel around and want to upload their work (mainly photographers) as fast as possible, even if they're not at home or have their laptop with them.

If they're too ignorant to learn, that that's their problem. It shouldn't be the website's responsibility to baby them.

Although, I must say that your second suggestion does seem practical in context.

I stll think you should put it on your 'artwork' before uploading it yourself... I don't see how this will be any different or easier.

Sorry, I don't get it. Are you talking about the artwork itself or about the watermark?

If you're talking about the watermark: The point is, that you should be able to upload one watermark for you account, which should be on all your artworks, not one special watermark for each artwork (this would be some kind of nonsense ;)).

If you can't spend 5 seconds to watermark something yourself it's probably not worth it. The deviantart watermarks does the 'watermarking' just fine. I don't see why they'd allow for a custom one as a site feature. As I already said, put it on yourself. :)

I think, you're right, BUT... (attention!) ... There are still some people outside, who don't know how to add such a watermark. Okay, most of them will use the dA watermark, when the want to watermark. But I think some guys would really like to have a more custom/smaller watermark. Well, I would like to see more pictures (if they have to be watermarked) with a more subtle mark on them.

And don't forget, that every second you save, is a second you could invest in new artwork! (occupational illness, I'm a automation engineer ;))
