Send E-Mail confirmation when changing password

:iconjosefelipem:
I believe that whenever you change your password on deviantART, a confirmation e-mail should be sent. That way, there would be less risk of hacking of accounts.

Also, when you change your e-mail address linked with your deviantART account, a confirmation e-mail should be sent to the original address, also for privacy protection reasons.

Credit for this thread goes to ~MochironMan, who requested I post it for him as he was leaving for work and wanted it to be posted asap. :)

Do you agree or disagree with the two statements above and why?

This is a bit late, but... I don't think that emails should be sent unless the user wishes so. Basically there would be a checkbox in the settings that can't be unchecked without email notification/confirmation. Simple. Most websites I use let us change our passwords like it's nobody's business.

Also, we should have to log in with our emails, not screen names, so hackers have a harder time finding out who's account is who's.

I'd like to see something like this implemented at some point in the life of deviantART. It would make people get their email up to date, but they should have been doing that from the start either way.
I've been finding suspicious content lately about hackers... Then I discussed this with you, Jose

I mean there are difficulties with current things pertaining to people and maintaining a solid and current email, but it would make things safer...

Along with email confirmation to the email that was registered with the account, an email confirmation could be sent to the original email if to change the email, and then any change after is sent to the NEW email address. It'll get people to keep track of their emails since that is half the battle in recovering your account for whatever means.

Hey there!

Thanks for the suggestion. These are some really nice ideas. These changes would require users to ensure that their emails are always kept up to date. I think, in lieu of a hard "Your password/email won't change until you confirm" it would be better for a "Hey, your password was changed. If you didn't do it, reset your password" type email to be sent.

That said, we obviously wouldn't want these to be sent to outdated emails. So I think the first step would be to help make sure our users keep their emails up to date. :) This is definitely something I'd love to look into further, though. Thanks again for the suggestion!
