Is there any reason the max GIF file size for avatars can't be upped?

It would be nice, since 15KB is really dang small.

I think I prefer to stay with 15kb. Even sometimes group icon load slower when I browse through my group list. I bet it'll just be the same if they increase the file size of avatar.

I question that too, 15KB may have been fine when the site was founded, but now that's really small.

The biggest I'd agree to is at most 20KB. The size is fine the way it is.
