So, I recently tried to clean up my gallery, and noticed a few things had changed. The first big one was that all your journals are now counted as deviations. (You probably already knew this), but what you may not have known, was that deleting them is now just as hard as deleting deviations... It requires you to use a drop-down menu to explain why you want to delete them.
Although I am sure this is helpful for deviantART, if you have a large gallery and want to clean it up (or a large collection of journals) this is the most annoying and ridiculous process...
In addition, under your deviation manager (which lets you store deviations a little more easily than delete)... It shows SOME journals, but I believe only those that you created with sta.sh... Meaning you can't even manage them through there...
What I would like to ask for is an easier system to use to manage this content. This would allow you to manage all your journals (like through the manage deviations), except have it be separate from the deviation one... AND include these features (Ideally ths would be for both deviations and journal deviations... But, journals need a start first...) :
- Check boxes that allow deviants to: Delete, Hide (if possible), and Disable Comments with easily - Add a way to delete deviations through the manage deviations section - A way to view ALL deviations or ALL journals ranked from newest to oldest (Allowing you to clean up without loading 10s or 100s of pages) - Perhaps (if possible) have the stats of these deviations listed (maybe on hover?) such as number of faves and comments
You're not required to, I skip it every time I delete a deviation. It's optional. The hover stats and check box suggestions are awesome, though, that's something I'd be VERY happy with!
Even if you skip, there's still that extra skip of clicking it. It shouldn't be 3 clicks to delete a deviation (Which as they are far apart, it is quite far away). It should be a much easier system that is more explainable to new deviants as well.
Three clicks? I only ever have to do two when I skip the reason. Just click 'Delete' and then 'Confirm,' then I close out the window (and even then I just hit 'Enter' for confirm, lol). I think the confirmation window is a good thing, and it's on every other network, so it's really no different thing that I think would confuse anybody. tumblr, FaceBook, flick, etc, all have confirmation windows, and personally, since misclicks happen quite often (especially with a track pad), they've saved me a number of times from deleting something that I didn't intend to click.
Click Delete (1) Click Remove (2) (That's without choosing a reason) Window pops up - Are you sure? (3) Confrims Deletion (4)
Sorry, I thought it was only three, but it's actually 4
So yes I agree that the Are you sure is a good one, but it doesn't need the other 2 steps.... And I should be able to delete them in mass numbers, not one... at... a... freaking... time...
Hmm! That's interesting, whenever the drop down menu pops us, there's a 'Delete' and 'Cancel' choice right below that menu, and I always just hit 'Delete' and it says okay and I can move on. It doesn't do my journals any differently than my deviations. I'd wonder if it were my browser, but that wouldn't make any sense. o.O If everyone has those two extra steps, though, then yes I can see how annoying that would be. I'd pobably give up deleting things all together and just make sure they were only available through Browse. I did say earlier that the check box option would be GREAT! +spyed said they're been working on a few things for 'the new dA' recently, so maybe they're coming out with another new version? Anyway, there's the possibility of that coming up. I'll hope for it.
That happens on any website, though. The confirmation is a good thing, because misclicks happen all the time. I know, personally, it's saved me a lot, and a few of my friends as well on other networks. You don't always have to give a reason if it's intended, though, and that's easy to avoid by just ignoring it.
