Anyone who's even vaguely acquainted with the literature community these days knows that by far and large the single issue most lacking, and with grave results, is the possibility to prevent search engines such as Google to take a glimpse at a particular piece of writing, and from them on keeping a copy indefinitely through their so-called /caches/. This is a problem. Many editors accept only original work, and if a piece turns out on Google chances are they won't be willing to have lost first publication rights, and reject it outright. Writers, on the other hand, quite naturally are not fond to give away their work forever upon posting it on dA.
This had been a problem which has seemed to be hard to solve for technological issues, but in a recent conversation with `AbCat and a few others it was brought to attention that deviations tagged as Mature do not show up on cache. This is because they need an age-approved verification, obviously associated with an account, before they can be viewed. In what concerns search-engines, only the title is kept. What arose from that conversation was the question of whether deviantART could employ a parallel system, reliant on deviations being hidden from the eyes of guests, to resolve the problem of cached literature.
Your opinion fails to take in account that deviantART intends to be a website for artists to improve (thus the late heavy focus through the medium of institutionalized critiques) rather than a mere expository of material. If deviantART wants to be used by writers of publishing caliber, then it must cater to them by allowing itself to permit workshops, critiquing, etc.
The Mature tag is but a patch, which locks a very large percentage of good writers who just happen to be under the age of 18. And to be honest most writers do not even know of this backdoor.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
