I dont know if this is a new trend here at Deviantart, but I see quite some stocks at the DD section. I always thought Daily Deviations were pieces of art (mostly photos) with a deeper meaning, pieces that make you think for a while. Only those artworks that are truly special and that not everybody sees would get in the DD section, deviantart's less popular top-art.
But why is a stock photo of a flower/a bridge/a sandy road worth a Daily Deviation? If people need stock photos like that, they will search for them and they will find it because of the comments and favs given on it and the numerous stock accounts out there. I feel like stock photos are getting some kind of boost which motivates people to do something with that stock, while thats not the intention of a Daily Deviation.
I think that it's a valuable spotlight onto some of the good stockers out there who make work that is useful for others and that stock DDs should continue.

If diamonds are just compressed carbon, And diamonds are a girl's best friend, Does this mean we can give a lump of coal for Valentine's?
Unfortunately, that's not what daily deviations are about. They're a chance for the gallery directors to showcase art from their galleries. That includes the stock directors. If they didn't included stock deviations, then there would just be one or two fewer daily deviations -- I don't believe there's a limit on the number of daily deviations, so nothing is being "kept out" by stock.
One other reason stock would be featured is to give an example of how stock should be done. Too often deviants submit low-resolution or out of focus stock deviations. The stock directors may be trying to set a good example.
