I suppose it depends on what area you're working on.

Einstein's forte was physics, and you need imagination to come up with a theory, but you need to knowlege to make that theory viable. Einsteins work also led to quantum physics, yet the man himself couldn't accept the idea.

you can be told how different parts of a machine work, and that's knowledge
but it takes imagination in order to put different machines together to create something new

or you can be told how to make brush strokes on canvas, that's also knowledge
but imagination gives the ability to create beautiful pictures

niether is more important. they both go hand in hand. if you have knowledge but no imagination, what will you do with it? simmilarily, if you have no knowledge of anything, or not enough, then your imagination will not be used to its fullest (sp?)

Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow, to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
All shall fade
All shall fade

If you're looking for an original piece, imagination. If you're looking for a technically perfect piece, knowlege.

wow.. i m really impressed by this answer... so, you say, if someone doesn't have one of them, then making something is harder. like for example: If i know what I want to do, I can Imagine it, then I also need the knowlege to do it??? or is one enough????

Neither knowledge nor imagine is more important. Having only one would be absolute choas.

I see. But to put what you have imagined onto paper or into an artwork u need the knowledge...
