Yep, regardless if it's the movies or series, I like it because the characters come off as natural and balanced, not over the top like in many other shows.
Haven't seen Arise yet though, I can only say that I found the music samples I heard of the soundtrack really bland.

Yeah, from my experience the anime which are basically like real movies/series that just happen to be animated are the best. Good stories work regardless of medium, if somethings main appeal is just being anime it's probably not really good.
