but its very unconstitutional to require someone to enlist in a branch of the military OR give up one of there rights without activating a draft ... unfortunitly this would NEVER pass even with an all democratic house and senate not to mention there is NO database of who owns assault weapons and searching every house or even if we knew who owned assault weapons going in to there house to take it away you might as well throw out the constution unfortunitly even with a strict ban the weapons out there now will have to stay
i own assult weapons and im glad i do and i understand why one would but i believe that some things take president over ones fun or paranoid fears i am not entirely for an all out assault weapons ban because of my own interpretation of the second amendment but something has to be done now and if an assault weapon ban would stop even a single mass shooting than thats enough for me to not buy another assault rifle
I will have to agree with *Civyx on this one. That petition site is a joke, and shall never accomplish anything. You'd have more luck writing your congressman The idea itself seems kinda militaristic, but, bleah, i'm brain dead right now, i just woke up...
My art class and I got this idea too. They should make a reality show called "Shrinks", where they get a huge mansion and invite a bunch of psychologists to live together in it, and they have to evaluate everyone else living there - but the catch is that every time they all leave, they make everything in the house 5% smaller and see what happens.
The petitions on the whitehouse website dont get taken seriously. I remember the weed one was pretty much scoffed at. The one to label GMOs in food and the one to stop drone strikes were simply "archived" without ever having been answered even though they reached the goal....which they changed from 25k signatures to 100k signatures BTW.
The site exists just to make people THINK they are listening.
So what about people that can't be in the military? What about people too old to join the military? How about you quit focusing on visual features of specific firearms and start doing something useful?
When will people realize that those petitions don't do a damn thing?
Assault rifles have no purpose outside the military. They're designed to kill as many as possible as quickly as possible. There's no sport in hunting with one unless you consider putting the exploded carcass back together like a puzzle a sport. And if you really think you can defend yourself against an army with one, well, there still are plenty of things the military can use that civilians can't. Besides, Europeans and Australians are doing just fine keeping their governments in check without assault weapons. Ask one of them. I know nearly a dozen on one site alone.
I'm not saying this is THE solution, I'm saying it's ONE very good candidate for the gun control part of the equation. Besides, Congress won't ever think of this if nobody even attempts to bring it to their attention. Will it accomplish anything? Probably not, but it definitely won't if we don't try.
Your idea discriminates against people with disabilities and medical disorders, and the elderly. It's a horrible idea, just in that. There are 25.6 adults in the US with diabetes; nearly all would be denied by the military.
AR's (your so called "assault rifles") are excellent guns for farmers dealing with coyotes. Coyotes travel in groups and hunt in pairs. I wouldn't want to be fumbling with .223, trying to reload in the dark, while a pack of coyotes is about to attack livestock. Australia and Europe don't have the Second Amendment and are very different from the US. Apples to oranges.
You're all over banning "assault rifles" because it doesn't affect you. Open your eyes a bit.
were a nation of warriors without a war to fight so we find something to hate and we take it so seriously we scare our selves and up arms as thats the only way we know how to solve our problems and thats why this country is going to hell in a hand basket
