For some reason I kinda like the musty smell of Christmas decorations that have been in and out of the attic for years.

Yes.

I think it tastes like... bad vinegar. But I loathe vinegar anyway

Damn you, stop tempting me. :(

I need to get my ass to England but everyone talks about how miserable it is to be there.

If they really were that miserable then they can always leave. Nothing keeping them here!

I think they want to leave but they can't/won't.

I mean, it's a welfare state. Things can't be so bad, right? If you don't work over here, you'll fucking starve. No unemployment benefits, no nothing. Well, I think people have it good there... but the grass is always greener and whatever.

People do live on benefits sometimes. It is better than nothing - you can't argue with that. And we have the NHS etc. But I'd like to emphasise that it is not cushy at all.

I've actively chosen to live in this country because it's got a huge amount going for it. I know some people who live here and talk about emigrating. It's just talk though. It annoys me too.

I think people just imagine it to be better elsewhere, but when push comes to shove, not all make that ultimate move.

My heart happens to be in a location with the longest running contiguous government, low natural disaster risk, acceptable conflict risk, interesting weather, decent healthcare, decent education, with a culture that I like.

Among other things.

I like vinegar, but malt vinegar is best on fish and chips and not in anywhere enclosed. :stare:

I like the smell of fresh paint and naked men... as long as they don't have unpleasant body odor of course.

Oh god, malt vinegar tastes amazing, but the smell of it in a busy, enclosed bar + all the kinds of smell people emit when they're drinking is enough to kill. :dead:

(I used to work at an English pub.)

I've never been in to a pub where the prevailing smell is vinegar
Reply
:iconnosugarjustanger:

For some reason, it just smells really bad in a pub. The normal room temperature is 26 Celsius so the smell of spilled ale and Guinness and malt vinegar all over the place... just spell disaster.

:iconplasticusforkus:

Nasty. That makes sense.

Vinegar is not prevalent in pubs in the UK but pubs don't always do food, and then vinegar would rarely complement most of the menu anyway.

:iconnosugarjustanger:
nosugarjustanger Featured By Owner Jan 5, 2013
Ah, that's why.

Most pubs here do some wee bites with all the fixings. Malt vinegar, brown sauce and everything. Fuck, I hated working there, but I love drinking there. It's a love-hate situation. I love the Old Speckled Hen... so I'll tolerate the malt vinegar. Ain't so bad when I'm not the one running around with pints of booze and drinking them for a change. :D
