Resolutions that have been kept

With all this talk about no one keeping their new year resolutions, has anyone ever kept a new year resolution. Even one from a thousand? Anyone? If so, what is it?

We'll see when the thirty pounds I'm trying to lose is actually gone. ;) I'll get back to you on that in June.

It's not healthy for you, and I had become dependent on it so I decided to take a break.

I resolved to quit smoking and drinking. Considering I've never done those things in the first place, I'd say that's mission accomplished!

I did not have a tangible resolution for 2012, it was mainly to be more than I thought I could be and stay optimistic.

Think I managed to keep that resolution. Proof is I am currently handling 2.5 person's job and juggling it with after work activities. (Scrapping through though...)

Kinda surprised at myself actually, haha. I shall be shameless and give myself a self pat on the back. :XD:

I wasn't alive in 1000, but on New Years 2006 my wife and I quit smoking together. I kept that one for 5 years.

I made one this year and that was to not make a new years resolution.

that way I wouldn't keep it and get tons of shit done!

actually it's been working out pretty good, without having things on my mind like "goals" instead of devoting time to making sure I'm keeping up with them I've been doing a lot more than usual. For instance, I started a painting at new years which I am about to finish.

here is an article I read a while ago about how trying to "think positively" generally leads you into thinking negatively because to think positively you must constantly monitor whether you're having a negative thought, ergo you start thinking negatively. [link]

in other words as a friend posted this quote on facebook earlier today "Having no destination, I am never lost" -Ikkyu

but I digress, setting goals isn't a bad thing, I've accomplished many things by setting goals.

My resolutions last year 1.) don't die. 2.) don't get pregnant. 3.) don't fall in love

1.) success! 2.) success! 3.) fail! successful failure!

This year I've limited myself to two, 1.) don't die. 2.) don't get pregnant.

Because I only make promises I feel sure I can keep. :-)

:iconwizardofunseen:

But why not make such a promise to yourself you know you can keep as resolutions?
Reply
:icondevere:

Because I do that all the time, anyway. Making a promise a resolution somehow puts it on a pedestal, which makes it hard to keep, even if it isn't.

Like in: "Think of a blue elephant" - easy enough, but "don't think of a blue elephant" - tougher... :D

My resolutions for 2012 were:

-To get my GED [was homeschooled, that's how I chose to get my diploma]
-And my license
-Get some form of steady income
-Don’t die in the apocalypse

And I managed to get all of those checked off. TADA

My parents felt that on top of it being safer, and not being fond of the public school system, they didn't want someone else raising their kids.

It's illegal for anyone else to homeschool your children [feel free to correct me if you know otherwise; my mom seemed sure, and I don't feel like douoble-checking]. We took online classes for certain things, but as a whole we used workbooks and my mom was our main 'teacher'.

Last year I started college. My first year resolution was to pass, and if possible with good grades, on all my subjects. I don't know how it goes in other places, but here's kind of uncommon for that to happen. Most people have to re-do at least one subject of their first year. And many people do even worse. But I managed to do it, and with good grades! :D Many times I thought I wouldn't make it, but I did, yay for me. :dummy:

I also had a resolution to be more social, and I did. After all, I've met almost every people who study the same career as me (we aren't a lot of people, so it's possible).

Unfortunately I didn't lose any weight :( But I've been more happy than usual about my appearance. I guess that's good.

And I still don't have a boyfriend. -.- But I guess I'll stop making that resolution. It makes me unhappy because to this day it seems it's never going to happen. -.-

This was overall a good year. :) Did you keep your resolutions?
