j/k. Artists seem to be a normal enough bunch, although if it seems more of them have mental issues it could be they're just more open about it (since creating and sharing art, I think, does tend to necessitate an open-ness). Although creativity leading toward artistry could be a chemical thing that affects other processes as well.
Once I read an article stating that Sigmund Freud and other psychologists believed that the artists' inspiration came from childhood trauma and unsolved psychological conflits... And he saw artists as fundamentally special...
Now I gotta go, I have to cut off my nose to draw a self portrait
It's just a guess...maybe I should google it and see what stats comes up. There are probably careers that have higher percentages of certain illness, higher than art. I would say the police and military are hard hit by health issues like depression and post-traumatic stress syndrome.
well, i don't think there is one crazy person that has ever lived . This world we liv in seems to think crazy as not thinking like the rest of the people . and since all artist do is try to be creative (think outside the box) i bet a lot of them come off exceedingly nutz , hell i spend too much time in my head and some of the stuff i come up with i my self think its crazy . but we all forget that we are nothing without imagination , and that what we call crazy is what we would have thought of most technology before it was created, same goes for architects , poets , whatever you can think about . largest strides ever made in those fields would have appeared crazy before they were proven . hate to bring this guys up, but we all know about Galileo , Columbus, Edgar Allan Poe all these people were "crazy" to people in there time , but now we think they were genius .
and lets not forget that crazy sells pills , so it will never end
