Rule 34

TAKE CAUTION - If you haven't heard of rule 34, I suggest you turn away before you learn of it. I wish I had the chance to turn away before I learned what it was. Curiosity killed the cat.

Dont say I didn't warn you. You may be entering the scary - rated R for mature - part of the internet.

So - its a weird subject and I am not an expert on it. Urban dictionary's page for 'rule 34' says that rule 34 is the concept of that "If it exists, there is porn of it." You can find the page here - [link].
So, from what Ive learned from that is - there is porn somewhere on the internet of anything from paperclips to ferrari cars. But, people have told me that people make sexual images using characters from children cartoons like Scooby Doo, Spongebob Squarepants, and of course - My Little Pony.

Im really really against this. Im not against porn or anything - porn stars can make money any way they like, I really don't care - but these cartoon characters were not created for this! If I created Spongebob, I would not like any of my creations to be exposed like this. Its not kewl!

Anybody got opinions? Let me know. I'm pretty intrigued.

Haha. I even have my own original characters and I'm not afraid to think of them sexually, nor do I mind if anyone else does. I think that's the probable attitude of most creators.

A Rule 34 of my character(s) would feel flattering.

Maybe. But r34 isnt all about fictional characters is it? Innocent and real people could be edited into porn as well.

Yeah, 't's called RPS(Real person slash.)

... Mm'hmm. I've seen.

And that shouldn't be allowed.

It's the internet, it makes finding these things easier than it was previously. But it's always existed somewhere in the world. I'm sure during the silent film days there was Rule34 of Charlie Chaplin somewhere.

I do think it's gross having under-age characters depicted in that way though. It exists, but as far as I'm aware it's also very illegal since it's a depiction of a minor whether it's a drawing or a photograph - it's still the same legally.

Well of course its existed before and without the internet. The problem with having such stuff on the web is that anybody can see it unless its on a page that only some people could access - with a password or something. Taking a picture of a random person, editing them into porn, and then uploading it onto the web for everybody to see shouldnt be allowed - but this rule seems to suggest that its an acceptable thing to do.

The rules of the internet aren't really supposed to be taken seriously - and they certainly aren't there to claim such things are acceptable. I think in the case of Rule34 it's not considered acceptable, but the rule makes the claim that it's inevitable that such things exist.

Inevitability based on the amount of people on the internet - I mean look at fandoms. There are massive groups of people that are obsessive fans, that use the internet as an outlet for their interest. Out of that group and based on human nature it's inevitable that some of them would have fantasies (romantic or otherwise) about those characters, and therefore a subset of those might produce or commission artwork depicting those fantasies.

Well, they seem to be called rules.

Anyway - I understand what you mean by the rules of the internet arent supposed to be taken seriously. But Im not talking about the rules, Im talking about rule34 art. The common definition of 'rule34 art' on the internet is art of porn of any subject. This forum is a good example of how people define r34 art as pornographic images of any subject - [link]
Thats what I'm against.
