Within reason I would say it's nothing students should complain about. Especially in the later years of school where they're being prepared for a life of having to still do stuff you don't want even though the end of day whistle has blown. And as stated by someone else - repeating something that was taught in class (preferably on the same day) will increase the chance of remembering it. But man - if you're gonna give homework out then at least make it a reasonable amount that still has some relevance. Don't make students feel like "They're just giving me this so I won't enjoy my afternoon" - that's how a lot of it felt to me. No student likes homework, but the best you can do is at least make them feel like it matters, and not just "busy work" that the teacher couldn't be bothered to give you during class.
If I had a child I would only accept them having to do an hour of homework maximum (assuming the kid isn't slow and takes ages to answer what 6x6 is) But kids exhaust themselves out faster than adults too. We shouldn't be expecting them to be working for 8+ hours a day like adults since its just unrealistic and unfair, especially if the kid has friends and wants to have a social life - something that should be encouraged as much as getting good grades. Like it or not - being a brainiac doesn't mean much if you grow up with no confidence or people skills required to make something of it
It didn't entice me to want to learn. I certainly wasn't a delinquent student but I still valued my time after school enough to feel pissed off when I got unnecessary amounts of homework and that just made me hate whatever I was learning about even more. Or at least feel bitter towards the teacher that issued it
Homework is a Bad Thing. Why? Well, it just is. Or maybe the nature of homework has changed since I was at school and *thatindividual is right. Let's hope not, though.
I think it depends on how many lessons you have per week in the subject. So, for instance, if you have English three times a week, homework is probably unnecessary in that subject, but if you have History once a week, it's understandable for the History teacher to send homework. You know what I mean?
Do you think homeowrk is GOOD or BAD?
SO NOT if you enjoy it or not but whether it is GOOD or BAD
Thanks
