Transcript for the #FeaturedChat with ^smashmethod. Enjoy! :)

<chix0r> Tonights special guest is our very own ^smashmethod, one of our most popular digital artists as well as our 3d Gallery Director :#1:
<chix0r> We'd like to thank him for giving up his time to take part in our Featured Chat series, and to also thank you for attending.
<chix0r> Please have your questions pretyped and ready to go, have fun!
<^smashmethod> ready, aim, fire.
<chix0r> hehe

<chix0r> leaf-lover: hey there
<leaf-lover> chix0r: hey =) sorry, I'm new to this, I'll ask =)
<leaf-lover> do you take any of your inspiration from everyday life or do your deviations come straight from your imagination?
<^smashmethod> The answer to that one is kind of multi-teired, so it's a yes, and a no
<^smashmethod> My primary force of "imagination" comes straight from my brain, because I have a schizophrenic thought disorder
<^smashmethod> which constantly keeps my head filled with random word associations, and other random nonsense
<^smashmethod> so at any given time, I'm always thinking of something to do, if that makes sense
<leaf-lover> hehe yeah, it does
<^smashmethod> my perceptions of what's happening around me, ex. My interaction with things in life is also slightly altered by the condition, so theres no real escaping it
<^smashmethod> I hear things wrong, i pair the wrong terms together, all the things youd associate with a thought disorder
<^smashmethod> so while it is annoying, it's also my primary inspiration
<^smashmethod> my view of life, Id hope, transfers through in my art
<^smashmethod> that sort of random, playful, slightly confused approach to everything
<leaf-lover> well your gallery is very nice and thought provoking, so I suppose yes, it does =)
<^smashmethod> experiencing life is in itself likeliving in a half-world, half-imaginative state to begin with
<^smashmethod> so the two are not seperate
<^smashmethod> does that answer the question?
<leaf-lover> it does, thanks very much
<^smashmethod> No problem

<realillusions> My question is in regard to DD's. I've noticed you tend to feature more of the "3D abstract" variety than anything else. Is this because you personally favor the genre over other 3D, or because you just receive low-quality/writeup-free suggestions from other genres, such as landscapes? I only ask because I've noticed that some genres seem to be promoted more than others, and as a landscaper, I like to try and keep our work as "mainstream" as possible...landscape ftw! :#1:
<^smashmethod> next question, or another question from the same person?
<^smashmethod> nevermind
<^smashmethod> Actually, if you were to ask me which genre I feature most, I would've probably guessed interior scenes, or photorealism renders
<^smashmethod> I don't think I feature one style over any other as a concious decision, for one
<^smashmethod> if one style does seem to come through more than another, it'd be a coincidence
<^smashmethod> the actual process for what gets picked is mainly just based on if the piece is quality work or not
<^smashmethod> I suppose it is just a tad easier to tell what went into some pieces vs others
<^smashmethod> so certain styles tend to stick out more
<realillusions> mmmk
<^smashmethod> but at the same time, I dont conciously say "this genre needs more recognition"
<^smashmethod> its more of a "this is well done, and deserves a feature"
<chix0r> does that answer your question realillusions?
<^smashmethod> I think if you look over the features as of late youll see more of a broad range than youd think
<realillusions> indeed

<kyza> Hey ordie fire away
<ordie> First of all, hey :)
<^smashmethod> click click boom
<^smashmethod> allo
<ordie> All of this is incredibly interesting, but... why 3D? Why did you choose to focus the expression of your thoughts in 3D art instead of doing so in another genre?
<^smashmethod> Like many other 3D artists, I feel like I was drawn to primarily 3D for it's variety
<^smashmethod> you can handle any medium, any size, any format, any anyhting through the medium
<^smashmethod> it takes a keen understanding of not only spatial awareness, but one of materials, lighting, camera angles, etc
<^smashmethod> so as a whole, it's the all-intensive, create anything type of environment that drew me in
<^smashmethod> you can literally bend and manipulate the world around you
<^smashmethod> plus, I always sucked at hand-drawing :)
<chix0r> lol
<ordie> Hehe
<^smashmethod> does that answer the question?
<ordie> Indeed it does! Thanks :)
<^smashmethod> yup

<M319> hello
<^smashmethod> Yo.
<M319> ermmm.........When Did You Become A Gallery Director?
<^smashmethod> Geez... who knows
<^smashmethod> maybe, 4 months ago?
<chix0r> yeah about that
<^smashmethod> 3.5? I dont remember
<^smashmethod> *checks calendar, realizes it's blank*
<M319> lol. you're funny
<chix0r> :evileye:
<^smashmethod> did you have a specific question?

<GerbilEater> Do you think 3D art has trouble being accepted as "art", particularly outside the world of computer/internet users and communities such as this one, because it's produced using computers?
<^smashmethod> I think mainly it depends on just how much is being "produced" by the computer
<^smashmethod> if something is modelled, textured, rigged, everything -- in a computer, by hand
<^smashmethod> thats more of an achievement than almost any other artform, at least in my eyes
<^smashmethod> its when you get into things where you simply input numbers to get results
<^smashmethod> like, a face generator, or plant generator that things start to get iffy
<^smashmethod> thats truly when its like the computer, not the artist is making something
<GerbilEater> so do you not consider fractal art as art?
<^smashmethod> everything's art, theres no sense it trying to debate that point
<^smashmethod> I think there's just different levels of interation between what goes into making that art
<GerbilEater> I suppose it is entirely subjective.
<^smashmethod> it'd be the same as a painter telling someone else what he wanted
<GerbilEater> true, I see what you mean
<^smashmethod> and having someone else paint it
<^smashmethod> is it still his art, or the person who actually made it?
<^smashmethod> theres no real way to quantify ideas like that
<^smashmethod> so I guess for me, it just depends on what went into making something
<^smashmethod> the time, not the medium
<GerbilEater> interesting.
<^smashmethod> if theres a solid idea that took time and consideration to make -- its art and it belongs to the owner of that time
<^smashmethod> does that make sense?
<GerbilEater> very much so
<^smashmethod> good to go?
<GerbilEater> yep, cheers mate
<^smashmethod> thanks for the interesting questions -- to everyone

<LazyGunn> heheh i looked at your gallery for the first time about 10 minutes ago so forgive my ignorance to a lot of your work - looking at your 3D stuff i see you do a lot of object work but little 'scene work' as such - i see a lot of this on da and i find it a pity because it shows good 3D skills but not stretched to a full environment - what inhibits you in this regard? lack or time or lack of patience or something else?
<^smashmethod> at first, it was actually from the lack of a decent computer to handle it
<LazyGunn> heheh yeah i know that feeling
<^smashmethod> but now that Ive got a machine to handle more complex environments, I suppose I have no excuse other than instability
<^smashmethod> I just dont feel comfortable building entire spaces, for both time and artistic considerations
<LazyGunn> unable to continue a running thread of thought with it?
<LazyGunn> yeah fair enough
<^smashmethod> I prefer to sit down to a job, and pound out the entire thing
<^smashmethod> not spend 4-5 weeks modelling every little facet of a project
<^smashmethod> I'm more of a day-to-day worker
<LazyGunn> so is work that continues over a few days avoided?
<LazyGunn> yeah
<LazyGunn> im similar in that regard
<^smashmethod> its horrible to say, but yeah
<LazyGunn> i think a few hours away can really disrupt it
<^smashmethod> art should be fun, and have a fun outcome
<^smashmethod> not be a tedious process of making everything to scale and doing every little detail
<LazyGunn> would you say the initial buzz and excitment dies in dealing with minutae?
<^smashmethod> at least to me, in that respect
<^smashmethod> yeah
<^smashmethod> it becomes work over hobby
<LazyGunn> i understand that fully, when you get to moving around individual vertices and there are thousands its a bit of a bummer
<^smashmethod> Ive been moving into more detailed work as of recent
<^smashmethod> there's just a backup of what I have posted
<^smashmethod> but some of my newer work is much more complex
<LazyGunn> ahh cool
<^smashmethod> dealing with thousands of texture files, and whole immersive scnese
<^smashmethod> scenes*
<LazyGunn> yeah ill be looking fporward to that
<^smashmethod> I number each piece of art Ive made, and I'm up to piece 187 -- and from what Ive posted online, Im up to 94
<^smashmethod> so there's quite a bit of catching up to do before what I make, and what I post goes back into sync
<LazyGunn> ahh yeah i see
<LazyGunn> do you think you will mis any out to get a more representive idea of what you are doing now?
<^smashmethod> But I'll definitely try more in depth work in the future, keep your eyes peeled
<LazyGunn> i'll keep a lookout
<^smashmethod> I dont understand that question, if you could rephrase
<LazyGunn> ahh i mean
<LazyGunn> you have been posting work as it is done
<LazyGunn> do you post every piece of work as a record or log?
<^smashmethod> I do post every piece of work I do, I just dont post them right when I finish them
<LazyGunn> cos you said your work done is much more than your work submitted
<LazyGunn> yeah i see
<^smashmethod> as there would be like 3-4 pieces a day being posted
<chix0r> LazyGunn: we're gonna have to ask you to rejoin the queue if you have any further questions, thanks
<LazyGunn> just wondered if you would post the earlier ones first
<chix0r> we have quite a queue waiting ;)
<^smashmethod> which would just get overlooked by most people
<LazyGunn> or skip some to give a representation of what you have ben doing recently
<LazyGunn> hahah sorry
<^smashmethod> so I space out the submissions, so each gets equal face time
<LazyGunn> i'll leave it there
<chix0r> thanks :)
<LazyGunn> fair enough

<BPauba> What genre of art do you respect the most, and why? What genre of art do you respect the least, and why? (dont try to dodge this one!)
<^smashmethod> Most, traditional illustration -- along the lines of Todd McFarlane, and Joe Madureria (i murdered his last name)
<^smashmethod> those guys can illustrate, plain and simple. That takes talent, and skill.
<^smashmethod> Least, would probably be photography (not to offend anyone)
<^smashmethod> but as an artform that requires skill, I dont think a majority of the point-and-shooting thats taking place out there requires talent
<BPauba> cool cool
<^smashmethod> it requires a high megapixel camera, and an eye for what looks good
<^smashmethod> which doesnt necessarily require talent
<^smashmethod> the two can be mutually exclusive
<^smashmethod> Not that there arent some amazing photographers out there, I just mean as a whoel community, what I see happening
<^smashmethod> whole*
<^smashmethod> does that answer your question?
<BPauba> Sure does, demote me :threaten:

<systemready> hey smash!
<systemready> Do you have some golden tips on making and desiging a deviation? and do you feel like youre under pressure, because people expect so much of your work?
<^smashmethod> Well, first and foremost, your deviation should be true to your idea
<^smashmethod> I stress, YOUR idea
<^smashmethod> you shouldnt be attempting to make something that doesnt already have a pretty clear idea in your head
<^smashmethod> ex.) you see in your minds eye what you want, and you go from that to create it
<^smashmethod> I've never been a fan of just sitting down to playing to make something, you should come to the computer (or paper, or whatever) with an idea first, everything else will handle itself after that point
<^smashmethod> And as for my art.-- I dont feel pressured, I simply make and post whatever comes to mind
<^smashmethod> I know some pieces will get 1000+ faves, and other will get 2
<^smashmethod> thats just the nature of art.
<^smashmethod> So long as the artist is true to themselves, and isnt manufacturing art simply for the community, I think the whole pressure/no pressure thing will even out too
<^smashmethod> that answer the question?
<systemready> ok thanks for youre time!
<^smashmethod> yup

<TheTrueDanteSparda> Hey, Thanks for doing this tonight :D, I'm up quite late for this! :#1:
I'm breaking away from the art/gallery directoresque questions:
If you had to pick one song you've ever heard, and say "This song means more to me than any other", Which would It be? And Why? (Thats more than one question, sorry )
<^smashmethod> Dave Matthews Band - Pig
<^smashmethod> I actually had to give the Valedictorian speech for my entire class a couple days ago
<^smashmethod> and was wrestling with your question, to try and find a meaningful end quote -- which did end up coming from that song
<^smashmethod> I think it resonates the most with me because of the lyrics, of course
<^smashmethod> theres lots of strong life lesson kind of stuff in there, I encourage you to listen to it (the live version) to see what I mean
<^smashmethod> what it boils down to is the quote i ended up using - "All good things come to an end sometime, so dont burn the day away"
<^smashmethod> and of course "Love, what more is there?"
<^smashmethod> without love/passion for someone or something, there is nothing else
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Those are two quotes I can definatley understand  And I see totally where you're coming from
<^smashmethod> 'tis an amazing song -- its actually on right now
<^smashmethod> does that answer the question?
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Yeah :D totally, Thanks again dude

<luda888> Who are your influences when writing classical music? Are you working on any musical compositions right now? Are you ever going to distribute sheet music?
<^smashmethod> yup, thanks for the interesting question
<^smashmethod> A lot of the classical stuff comes straight from the masters, like Mozart, Beethoven, etc
<chix0r> hey luda888
<luda888> hey
<^smashmethod> I actually did a project whereby I deconstructed the compositons of some classsic songs, and mashed them together, it was pretty interesting
<chix0r> you have a question?
<^smashmethod> he asked one
<luda888> i asked it chix0r
<chix0r> I appear to be lagging :|
<^smashmethod> I currently have a couple albums in the works
<^smashmethod> including some abstract ones, more console collectives, and some more personal music
<luda888> the project you just mentioned, did you release it?
<^smashmethod> no, it was more of an experiement
<^smashmethod> Ive also been coding something that deconstructs images into music notes
<^smashmethod> based on their hue, saturation, and brightness levels
<luda888> wow
<^smashmethod> which has produced quite a few interesting abstract compositions
<luda888> is it a program you made?
<^smashmethod> once I get those finalized, I intend on doing a whole CD of those compositions
<^smashmethod> yeah, in the works
<^smashmethod> as for sheet music, I dont have an effiecent way of distrbuting it
<^smashmethod> other than pritning it and scanniong it
<luda888> alright
<^smashmethod> so I suppoose I could, I just dont cause Im lazy
<luda888> are you going to release that program?
<^smashmethod> I might, but not after it's been put to use and proves itself first
<luda888> cool, ill be waiting for it, my pictures as music
<^smashmethod> does that answer your question(s)?
<luda888> yes thank you!

<leaf-lover> hey again =)
<leaf-lover> do you like to listen to music whilst you work or do you prefer to have peace and quiet? And if you do, what kind of music do you like to listen in particular to?
<^smashmethod> strange you'd ask another question which would relate to my damn disorder
<^smashmethod> but yes, I have music on 99% of the day, I carry headphones around when Im not near the computer
<leaf-lover> hehe sorry
<^smashmethod> music has a calming effect on the brain, so I keep it around, and on as much as humanly possible
<^smashmethod> I listen to Dave Matthews alot, enigma, some rock, some psychedelic music
<^smashmethod> anything that's well done
<^smashmethod> lots of videogame music, soundtracks, etc
<leaf-lover> I love music too
<^smashmethod> My collection is well over 1,000 Gb and growing
<^smashmethod> can't get enough
<^smashmethod> I have CDs and DVDs of music/mp3s all over my room
<^smashmethod> spindles galore
<^smashmethod> does that answer your question?
<leaf-lover> hehe same, I've just got myself broke again by buying a stash of new music
<leaf-lover> yes thanks :D
<^smashmethod> no problemo

<M319> okay, i know my first one was stupid(^^; bad move)but how long does it usally range out to do one of your deviantions? it looks to me like it would take awhile, but i dont have the program that des that. so i wouldn't know and how hard is it to do?
<M319> sorry for being slow. i was doing something
<^smashmethod> It varies
<^smashmethod> but never usually more than a day
<^smashmethod> (not including rendertime)
<^smashmethod> which can be another 40+ hours depending on the complexity of the render, and how large its being rendered
<^smashmethod> for most 3D pieces, Id say about 4-5 hours of prep time, and 30+ for rendering
<^smashmethod> for photoshop work, maybe an hour or so
<^smashmethod> illustrations, 2-3 hours
<^smashmethod> and vector illustrations are the only projects that linger over more than 1 day
<^smashmethod> some ive done have taken 5 hour days for weeks to finish
<^smashmethod> let me find one real quick
<^smashmethod> like this one: [link]
<^smashmethod> took about 2 weeks of cojnstant work -- those are the real labors of love
<^smashmethod> constant*
<M319> woa.........
<^smashmethod> does that answer your question?
<^smashmethod> *edit
<^smashmethod> I think it depends on your comfort level with the programs too
<M319> yes. and that;s good ^^
<^smashmethod> for how fast you can work

<TheTrueDanteSparda> Hello again! "Pig" is great :D, Anyway, Just a random question that popped into my mind:
What do you listen to your music on when you're on the move?
<^smashmethod> you only get faster the more you practice
<^smashmethod> I have a small mp3 player that I keep in my pocket / plug into my car that I take with me everywhere
<^smashmethod> it's on 6-7 hours a day, I go through batteries like water
<TheTrueDanteSparda> nothing big & expensive then?
<^smashmethod> Nope, it's actually the mp3 I won from a DA wallpaper contest a couple years ago
<^smashmethod> 128 Mb Rio mp3 player
<^smashmethod> holds about 30 songs, which I rotate every 2 days or so
<^smashmethod> any other music questions?
<TheTrueDanteSparda> I'd of thought with as big a collection you have, you'd have something a lot bigger
<^smashmethod> I'll migrate someday
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Umm, Not at the moment, I'll be back if I can think of something else
<^smashmethod> but until my current one breaks, i'm going to keep using it
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Thats the way :#1:
<^smashmethod> thanks for the questions
<TheTrueDanteSparda> No problem :aww:

<lazybutt> Hey, ^smashmethod. :)
<lazybutt> Hey. Would you consider yourself funny? And what comedy shows do you like? Do you like Carlos Mencia? Do you like Pancakes? How about waffles? If you do, what do you eat on them? Did you have an account before ^smashmethod? How many DD request would you say you get daily? Are most of them bogus? Do you enjoy being admin? Is this too many questions in one?
<^smashmethod> mahollo
<chix0r> :o
<lazybutt> Um.
<lazybutt> You can answer the one about the DD's :slow:
<^smashmethod> Consider myself funny, no
<^smashmethod> due to my condition, I have what's called "flattened affect"
<^smashmethod> I speak in a montone voice, dont have ups or downs, etc
<^smashmethod> so I'm not very lively, though people do tend to laugh at what I say sometimes, so who knows
<^smashmethod> I dont watch TV, so I dont have any favourite shows
<^smashmethod> I dont know who carlos mencia is
<lazybutt>
<^smashmethod> pancakes, waffles = gross
<lazybutt> Cereal?
<^smashmethod> I had many accounts before ^smashmethod
<^smashmethod> I changed names whenever it became slightly popular
<^smashmethod> to avoid attention
<^smashmethod> I gte about 7-8 DD suggestions daily
<^smashmethod> I eat frosted flakes 2-3 times a day, cereal rules
<lazybutt> :#1:
<^smashmethod> Most of the suggestions are for peopel who just got DDs
<chix0r> surely that answers ALL your questions lazybutt :)
<^smashmethod> or work which may not exactly be top caliber
<^smashmethod> and yes, I enjoy being an admin, for what it's worth

<systemready> everything goes to an end and when youre very old :) still behind the computer?
<^smashmethod> Still behind the computer
<systemready> ;)
<systemready> thanks
<^smashmethod> many hours a day
<^smashmethod> I'm only 23, I dont consider that very old
<chix0r>
<systemready> haha
<systemready> you have a long way to go
<chix0r> what do you consider old ^smashmethod?
<^smashmethod> youre not in the queue!
<^smashmethod> 60+ ?
<^smashmethod> ish
<chix0r> lol
<chix0r> :phew:
<systemready> but always listening to music right
<^smashmethod> but of course

<darklylit> Well met Mr.Method, what is your contemporary stance on Lithuanian politics?
<^smashmethod> They're fantastic, I love 'em.
<^smashmethod> Can't get enough.
<darklylit> Roight. Wouldnt you say Fi is old? at the least bit?
<^smashmethod> Nope
<chix0r> oi!
<darklylit> uhu
* chix0r glares at darklylit
<darklylit> right, just one more question...
<darklylit> Whats the Capital of Burkina Faso?
<^smashmethod> Ouagadougou?
<darklylit> Right on.
<darklylit> Cheers.
<shutdown> ^smashmethod

<leaf-lover> This one is kinda silly but we all need a bit of silliness in our lives! :D What's your fav type of cheese?
<^smashmethod> Colby Jack, probably
<^smashmethod> any kind of cheese that holds it's own form is cool by me
<leaf-lover> for me its good old Cheddar or a nice strong Stilton
<^smashmethod> not of those drippy, sloppy cheeses, those are gross
<leaf-lover> you mean something like brie? I agree, I don't like creamy cheeses
<^smashmethod> Or melted Velveeta cheese
<^smashmethod> ack.
<^smashmethod> anything else?
<leaf-lover> nope, thankees :D

<lazybutt> You said you like to avoid attention. How are you taking the attention of being an admin?
<^smashmethod> I've come to deal with it
<leaf-lover> I don't have a question :giggle:
<^smashmethod> I've never been a fan of having hundreds of people knowing who I am
<lazybutt> That sounds reasonable.
<^smashmethod> but once you've had it for so long, you get used to it
<^smashmethod> Some people still chatr with me like I should know who they are
<^smashmethod> and i dont remember them ,and they get pissed
<lazybutt> What is the best thing about being an admin, in your opinion?
<^smashmethod> which is kind of annoying, but like i said, I get by
<^smashmethod> can always unplug the modem for some alone time
<^smashmethod> No one around here gives a damn about me :)
<lazybutt> That is so far from the truth. ;)
<^smashmethod> Best thing is probably the ability to DD random stuff
<^smashmethod> to bring stuff Im interested in into the spotlight, and see it get much recognition
<^smashmethod> *has been guilty of DDing 2 things in 1 day*
<^smashmethod> on accident
<lazybutt> :) That's all.
<^smashmethod> I pick all my DD's like 20 days in advance because I'm so eager to do it sometimes
<^smashmethod> so I need to keep em in order on the calendar
<lazybutt> Awesome.
<^smashmethod> We've got a lazybutt
<^smashmethod> and a lazygunn
<lazybutt> :slow:
<^smashmethod> and Im a lazy bastard
<chix0r> lol
<^smashmethod> so we've got the trifecta

<alchemism> Have you experienced difficulties exposing your work to a crowd other than those interested in digital arts? For example, there are many digital artists breaking ground within the international 'visual arts' scene...it's slowly gaining recognition among contemporary curators/artists/directors...is this a possible avenue for you?
<^smashmethod> Art for me... in terms of the things I create and display, has always been my "after work" activity
<^smashmethod> so it always seems odd to get recognition for thing you dont necessarily take seriously
<^smashmethod> so it's kind of a double edged sword between doing what you like doing
<^smashmethod> and having people try and give you props for it when you dont necessarily want them
<^smashmethod> if that makes sense
<^smashmethod> if the natural progression leads me into an internation arena
<^smashmethod> whereby what I do is globally recognized, all the better
<^smashmethod> I just wouldnt pursue it as viciously as someone else might
<^smashmethod> I'd rather just stay the smalltown me
<alchemism> Done, thanks ^smashmethod
<^smashmethod> working in some obscure place, getting by day to day

<TheTrueDanteSparda> Likes, Not A Music Question, so:
How much wood would a wood chuck chuck, If a wood chuck could chuck wood?
<^smashmethod> 342.4 logs, and 1 lb of bark
<chix0r> lol
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Damn.
<^smashmethod> "That's a shitload of logs" you're thinking
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Thats not enough, I need to rent 3 of the bastards now.
<^smashmethod> but oh no, if youve seen one go to town, its fully possible
<chix0r> does that answer your question TheTrueDanteSparda?
<^smashmethod> another question, sparda?
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Then I will have to go about renting one for my tree felling activites...
<TheTrueDanteSparda> Nah, I'm done :D

<LazyGunn> Hey i've seen you refer to 'your condition' several times during this chat and it sounds a lot like you suffer from some form of schizophrenia, is this true? As a schizophrenic myself (to a somewhat acute degree) i'm interested in how people with mental illness deal with the world through art and communication, do you find it easier to survive through your computer (i know i do)?, does your art reflect your altered world view? If i'm reading wrong i'm very sorry, buit i would like to hear what you have to say about these things as a sufferer of mental illness
<LazyGunn> yeah if i'm wrong feel free to shout
<^smashmethod> Yeah, I have a type 4 schizophrenic disorder -- disorganized schizoprenia
<^smashmethod> it disrupts my thought and speech patterns, when I'm off meds
<LazyGunn> ahh, i'm a paranoid schizophrenic myself
<LazyGunn> yeah i see
<^smashmethod> I'm currently stable on 2 different anti-psychotics, and ADD medication
<^smashmethod> I actually have a box of empty pill bottles next to me right now, was going to make a sculpture out of them, since theres so many
<LazyGunn> i guess you are still somewhat touched by it despite medication
<^smashmethod> In "real life" -- in person, I'm really quiet
<LazyGunn> hahah yeah, you get through em pretty fast
<LazyGunn> my bin is full of them
<^smashmethod> I say maybe 10-20 words a day, only when I really NEED to speek
<LazyGunn> crikey
<LazyGunn> yeah that's quiet
<^smashmethod> so yeah, communicating digitally helps
<^smashmethod> since you dont actually need to utter the words
<^smashmethod> and i can see their order before I "submit:" a reply
<LazyGunn> you seem to be helped even more by trhis medium than i am, my problems manuifest themselves when i'm mixed with people i dont know in places away from 'safe' zones
<^smashmethod> my real speech patterns are extremely slow, since it takes a sec for me to get the order of the words right
<^smashmethod> and I usually keep my sentences real short
<LazyGunn> ahh yeah, schizophrenia is such a blanket term, your symtoms are very different to my own
<^smashmethod> different type
<LazyGunn> yeah
<^smashmethod> Look up "hebephrenic" or "hebephrenia"
<chix0r> does that answer your question LazyGunn?
<^smashmethod> that's my type
<LazyGunn> as i say it covers a huge range of symptoms
<LazyGunn> well, not really chix0r but i taken far too much time so i'll bow out again
<LazyGunn> thanks for the info ^smashmethod!
<^smashmethod> what'd I miss?

<leaf-lover> sorry for taking so long
<leaf-lover> What is your ultimate comfort food?
<^smashmethod> no worries, Im not going anywhere
<^smashmethod> comfort food?
<^smashmethod> my meds have severly messed up my insides, so I get sick whenever I eat
<^smashmethod> so I only eat when absolutely necsessary
<^smashmethod> I dont turn to food unless I have to
<leaf-lover> aww ok
<leaf-lover> so if you're feeling a bit down there's nothing calorie filled and chocolatey that you crave for hehe
<^smashmethod> nope
<^smashmethod> I dont ever feel down
<^smashmethod> or up -- it's flattened affect

<madnessism> do you find, with your condition, that you use art to express things you can't with words? if so, do you think it's helped or hindered your art in any way? and do you think you percieve the world, visually, different than so called 'normal' people? i've noticed a lot of your works have an explosive, almost fractured quality and was wondering if that had to do with it :)
<madnessism> btw hi thanks for coming :aww:
<^smashmethod> I defintely use art to get the random ideas out of my head
<^smashmethod> its like if you think to say something
<^smashmethod> but never say it
<^smashmethod> you just keep thinking it over and over
<^smashmethod> if I were to keep all of the random ideas in my head, Id never get anywhere
<^smashmethod> I have to transfer them into some kind of outward artistsic, or otherwise, effort
<^smashmethod> so my art is more or less a result of my condition, more than it is a hinderance
<^smashmethod> as for my perceptions of the world, you can only see through your own two eyes, so I dont know how to compare what I see and interpret to someone elses
<^smashmethod> I think maybe Im a little more analytical than others, see thing speople may overlook
<^smashmethod> but generally speaking, i'm a pretty normal guy
<darklylit> Inspired by the indepth culinary discussion, If you were going to bake a kitten, what would be your ideal Recipe?
<^smashmethod> I guess a lot of what my artwork is, too
<^smashmethod> is not what I see in the world
<^smashmethod> but what I wish i saw
<^smashmethod> 2 Lbs chopped carrots, half a turnip, and the liver of a new born babe
* darklylit appologizes for asking his nonsense whilst you were still answering
<^smashmethod> does that answer your question madnessism?
<^smashmethod> *tumbleweed rolls by*
<darklylit> a good basis, but wouldnt it be ruined without baking powder?
* tmpst24myst appologizes for the confusion...my bad
<^smashmethod> you roll the kitten in that before you drop it in, that's common sense
<darklylit> of course.. silly me...
<darklylit> cheers

<lazybutt> What was it like growing up as a child with your illness? Were you quiet then as well?
<^smashmethod> The illness is like a dam
<^smashmethod> you live with it trickling through at maybe 2-3%
<^smashmethod> then 1 day the damn breaks, and youre stuck with it at 100%, for the rest of your life
<^smashmethod> my dam didnt break until about a year and a half ago
<^smashmethod> so up until then, I was "fine"
<^smashmethod> so for all intents and purposes, I was a pretty normal kid
<^smashmethod> does that answer your question?
<lazybutt> What was it like, a year and a half ago, when this "problem" was dumped onto you?
<^smashmethod> I just take meds now to beat back th e"brain noise" to a easy to deal with level
<^smashmethod> I went down to Rockford, tossed all my school shit in the river, and layed there for a couple hours
<^smashmethod> dealed with it for about a day, then started taklking about suicide instead of living with it -- was institutionalized for a couple months
<^smashmethod> went through a boatload of meds, in and out of the hospital, finally to where I am now, semi-stable on medication
<^smashmethod> the standard "to hell an back again" story
<lazybutt> Well, I give my best regards to you, and thank you.
<^smashmethod> Thanks

<darklylit> The MN Administration, chix0r, lolly, Spyed, Michael Jackson and The Ambivalent Powers That Be would like to thank you all for coming, and ^smashmethod for attending this featured chat. The Chat will now be open for general discussion.
