There are times when the help desk staff or myself directly get inquiries about deviantART running pop-up advertisements. This is a posting to answer such an inquiry.
By policy, deviantART does not run pop-up ads, or any other advertisement like that. If you are browsing deviantART and receive a pop-up ad, there could be one of two things happening:
#1) One of our advertising network partners is serving a pop-up ad. This rarely happens because we have been extremely specific that we do not impose anything like that on this community.
#2) You computer has been infected with some kind of spyware, which is causing ads to pop-up randomly and actually has nothing to do with deviantART.
Because #2 is so common, we ask that you always scan your computer for spyware before contacting us about it. If you do a scan and do not find anything, then please contact us, and we will work to find out which network is causing the problem. Otherwise, you will find a much quicker resolution to your problem by removing whichever spyware is camping out on your computer.

Ahh... now I see..... Ive had very few in my time at deviantArt, and this is probably the reason why.
I have another question, though.
Sometimes, when I use the search bar or click to see my messages, I get redirected to the DeviantArt homepage. Why is this?
P.s Ive just got redirected to the homepage the moment I tried to the post.

I was looking at someones deviation when suddenly I was redirected to "japanforum".
There was a message at the top of the screen "dA is brought to you today by japan forum.com, click here to return to dA."
I know you can get things like that when you're logged out, but I was logged in at the time, what's the deal?

DA says this would-be critic isn't rich enough to be allowed to write proper critique... but I do it anyway.
Somehow deviantArt took me to a completly different page with a little dA bar on top. It was Japan forum something or other. I have no idea what happened, I don't think I clicked on anything. It's like it was just overlayed on the dA website because my back button didn't work and when I clicked to go back to dA, it didn't have to load, it was fast.
Another gripe is that I noticed when I'm not logged in that I have to go past an ad page before I can log in.
In my opinion, taking me to a completely different site is as bad as a pop-up ad. I don't like where dA is going with the ad system. I hope you all are making a ton of money.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
