I woke up this morning and briefly thought of devart, and out of the blue, it struck me that hey, what if one of the people I have devwatched or who has commented on or favourited something of mine is now dead from the tsunami disaster?
The odds may seem remote, but it could certainly have happened. I haven't heard from a lot of people on here in a while. Perhaps one went on vacation to somewhere in Southeast Asia. After all, a substantially huge area was affected by that one earthquake.
I believe that an effort should be made to somehow publish a list, as complete as is humanly possible and if and when it becomes ethical to do so, of all the deviants dead, missing, or wounded/sick from the tsunami or in the ensuing chaos. I know that this is a big project, and frankly, I don't know how it could possibly be accomplished. But what I do know is that I've connected with a lot of people on dA, and I would want to know if something terrible happened to one of my friends.
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, or even just some support for this, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if this has been suggested already, so if it has, tell me so that I can lend my support to that cause.
Thanks, your support means a lot to me. Originally I thought that it would be possible to make use of the ingenuity of the deviantart tourists and people living in the affected areas, but I quickly berated myself, thinking that they probably have a lot more on their minds at this point than publishing a list on the internet. I figure that right now is probably not the best time to be actively pursuing something like this, but if we can just start with getting some support going, that should suffice for now until the situation in that area of the world stabilizes, and people can start turning their attention to things secondary to survival.
its just a matter of time... its sad but dead people dont write things in internet... just wait and those who are somehow connected to southest asia (living there, having family there, spending vacation there) and from out of nowhere stopped writing anything in Da, can be considered dead...
its too much coincidence a guy, with all these characteristics, closing his da at this time...
dont u agree?

Actually, the statistics are that he wouldn't be dead, just living in an area where the communications infrastructure was badly hit, so the telephone lines were overloaded. Getting on DA is less of a priority than using the phone lines to contact family or for emergency services. I've got a Thai friend whose family lives far from the coast in the highlands, so they weren't hit, but she still hasn't heard from them because the communication lines are overloaded. She's not worried, though.
Wait a couple of months until they get phone lines back up or people get a chance to leave the area and go to a place with better communication. *Then* if they're not getting online, we can start thinking about the possibility that they're dead.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the deviants in the affected areas are either without (or with limited) connection to the Internet or simply have too much on their hands to worry about dA.
