First off, it's most likely you don't know what the heck "Son of the Philosopher" is. It's an in-progress animal/fantasy webcomic, and you can read it by visiting the website here ( [link] )!

It's about time!
I'd originally meant to run this contest on the anniversary of the last one. Then I got busy, then it was Christmas, and so now I'm many months late.
This'll basically work like the last one, with multiple categories and multiple winners. It's a bit complicated because of this, so please read the journal fully if you are interested in entering!
General Rules: 1. You can enter any of the contests as many times as you want - but you can only win once. 2. You may NOT win, despite entering multiple times. However, I usually end up drawing something small (like an icon) for everyone who enters, just because they entered… 3. Your entry must be 100% your own (ie; no tracing my work, like occurred in the last contest, and no stealing others' work). However, you MAY collaborate with another person, but each artist must be credited and you'll have to split the prize if you win. 4. You must let me know if you finish an entry. I don't watch everyone, I won't just automatically know that you've posted something meant as a contest entry. Please comment somewhere or note me with a link. 5. If you have any questions regarding this contest, please direct them to *Nekc OR philosoficate.tumblr.com ONLY. Questions about this contest received elsewhere will be ignored. 6. No, I cannot just give you cash instead of commission credit if you win. I do not have the money to do this, please don't ask.
Category 1: Create-a-Lock This category is best suited to those who love to design characters! You will have to design a Lock character.
A Lock is the species Elian, Rollo, Tancred and Reed belong to. They are quite interesting and grow through transformation.
Some things to keep in mind: --Locks usually keep the same eye color through all four stages. This is not ALWAYS the case (there are always mutations) but it is the most common. --Similarly, Locks might or might not retain similar color schemes through all stages. For example, Rollo's colors are different between her first and second forms, but Elian's are the same. --The stages of growth have specific possibilities: ----First form: small animals (insects, arachnids, small fish, small rodents, small birds, etc.) ----Second form: medium-sized animals (cats, larger rodents (such as raccoons), foxes, dogs, small wolves, most raptors/birds of prey, etc.) ----Third form: large animals (horses and other equines, humans, large reptiles, etc.) ----Fourth form: anything, but the size will be extraordinary --Within the size limits, the shapes can be anything - even mythological creatures.
Requirements for entry: To enter successfully into this category, you must design at least TWO of the four stages. You can design them all if you want, but there is no extra credit. Only designing two will get you the same chances of winning as someone who designed all four. Your character does NOT need a personality to go with it or a history, though I will probably favor these more than ones without. You may keep the character if you want, or give it to me to use for whatever. The entries to this category will be judged on CREATIVITY.
Category 2: Fathers' Past The second category is another designing one - but you have less freedom. It isn't a spoiler, so I'll go ahead and announce that we will NOT be seeing most of Reed and Tancred's past forms in the SotP comic. We know what their final forms are, and what their third forms might have been (revisit chapter 5 for hints~), but the first and second forms are unclear. Want a go at showing what you think they were? (;
Requirements for entry: Choose one of the two characters, Reed and Tancred, and draw them in their first or second forms, whatever you think they might have been. The entries to this category will be judged on CREATIVITY.
Category 3: Screenshot This is the largest category. You will have to choose a single panel OR scene from the comic - and redraw it in your style.
Requirements for entry: This category is pretty straightforward. Choose a scene and redraw it. Any page or panel or scene so far released in the comic is free game. This is where I must stress that tracing the comic will get your entry disqualified. You must redraw it on your own. Entries to this category will be judged on DETAILS and CREATIVITY.
Commission prices/where can I spend my "winnings"? [link] Click the link above to see what you can spend "commission credit" on. Basically, it means you have that much to spend on commissions from me.
Anyone who enters and DOES NOT PLACE will get a free static icon (1 per person).
As extra incentive, those who place will be offered one cameo appearance in one of my comics. I can generally work with any character, though we might have to discuss some things if the design is super unrealistic. It is up to me which comic the character makes an appearance in because it will depend majorly on the storyline and character type. Unfortunately, Son of the Philosopher is not among the comics open to cameo appearances. Sorry!
Deadline May 3, 2012 (my birthday, coincidentally!) Extensions will only be considered a week before the deadline~
That is a great idea for a contest! I especially love the Reed and Tancred one. I think I'll give this a shot. The new pages of SotP are amazing! I never expected what happened. xD
I'd like to enter the first contest.. but the prizes, I don't get them. Does it mean that the winner would be awarded that money, or they can get anything of your commissions that is that amount, for free?
Like it says in the rules, I don't have the cash to just give it out; if you place, you can pick something(s) from my commissions page that the amount of your prize would cover.
