I've recently started a new wiki project: The Arcana Wiki. The concept of the wiki is basically: "It's the Wikipedia, but with annotations for story writers and pen & paper role-players." Each page contains both basic, factual information about the topic of the entry, and a "Game and Story Use" section where everyone can come up with how to use this information in a story.
The wiki is still fairly new, but is quickly gathering a fair amount of volunteers and growing rapidly. But so far, it doesn't have any art - and I'd like to change that. So if you are bored, how about creating some art for a specific entry?
Here are some suggestions for getting started on currently existing entries.
- any creature from the Mythological Creatures page - bogeymen, kelpies, pookas, and more. - the Tunguska Event - if you want to paint a really huge explosion, here is your chance! - Cargo Cults - one of the stranger religions of modern times - but it would certainly provide for some interesting visuals. - Ferret Legging - hey, it's a sport where a grown-up man sticks a live ferret into his trousers! I mean, what's not to like?
I should also note that writing a new entry for your favorite topic and then creating an image for that (or using an existing image you created earlier) is entirely legitimate, as long as you adhere to the overall guidelines for the entries for the wiki - so look through your own gallery, and ask yourself if some of these would look good for a wiki entry that hasn't written yet, and write it.
I will also try to write some guidelines for artist contributors here. In the meantime, if you have any trouble with adding images to the wiki, don't hesitate to ask me.
the Arcana wiki is just so cool. everytime i get there i have a million ideas. mostly for places i've been in Canada, but i've been round the states and through England and Scotland, so i have tons and tons of ideas and stuff.
its actually had me pondering writing up my own tabletop game. i've been toying with the idea since i started gaming.
anyways thanks so much for sharing your awesome project!
Yesterday, I started on a new sub-project within the wiki - a historical timeline. In it, I plan to put dates of historical events, interesting news articles that were published on specific dates (see the entry for 2008, for example), and even events that only happened in fiction (such as novels, television series, and so forth) - anything is fair game as long as it's of use for gaming.
I'm currently going through the archives of the Delta Green Mailing List, which certainly has no shortage of strange news items...
The wiki has expanded rapidly in the last two weeks. One of the latest addition is the tropes section, which is based on the TV Tropes Wiki - a brilliant resource for anyone interested in fiction in its own right.
For those who are interested in writing for the wiki, I recently started a contest where the winner can get a $25 gift certificate for an RPG Online Store.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
