I am the editor of Plain Spoke, the quarterly literary publication of Amsterdam Press, and we're looking for cover art for our next issue, which is due out in April.

We've got a small subscriber base, but we have a great reputation.

It's a print journal, digest sized, saddle-stitched on lovely paper, and it's normally around 50 pages.

What we're looking for is a .jpg or .png submission of your photography or artwork. We love mixed media. Check out our website at [link] to get a better feel for who we are if you're interested in submitting something.

For cover art, we pay a $10 honorarium, along with two copies of the journal when it comes out. We acquire only North American serial publication rights, which revert back to author/artist upon publication.

If someone from DA is chosen for the cover art, (or any black-and-white art for the magazine itself) we will post links to their respective galleries on the website or list those in the contributor notes in the journal.

I'm not interested in arguing that it's not enough money for someone to make. Poets, writers, and artists never make enough money. My poetry has been published in a gang of lit magazines, and I only recently made $10 on one. My point here is this: the magazine does not make a profit, and we are only lucky that it has, so far, almost broken even. Literary magazines are published for the love of the literature. Our cover artists are paid only because we feel that it's such a prominent part of the aesthetic of the issue. If you have any questions about this, please send me a message privately about it.

I'm trying to reach a wider, and unpublished audience here, so that I can promote those artists who need it most.

We're also accepting black-and-white submissions for publication, but those accepted are unpaid, except for 1 copy of the issue appeared in.
