Singing Pirates

I got this movie from the library called "The Pirates of Penzance," taking it to be some low-budged parody of "Pirates of the Caribbean."  But it turns out, this is actually a recording of a stage performance of a musical that's been around since the '80s. This production was performed about a decade ago, and interprets the main character as a Jack Sparrow parody. Others apparently spoof Captain Hook, and Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast" (?).

So far, I can't say much about the plot. The singing's so operatic I can't make out most of the words. The guy who looks like Gaston was just hitting on an old lady, but then they started arguing, so now he's lost interest......and now a bunch of girls who look like Mary Poppins are frolicking in a forest.

I feel I'd appreciate this better if I was high.

But even sober, it's good fun.

Hooray for singing pirates! :hooray:

Yep.  Last December,  there was a live television musical of Peter Pan and Walken played Captain Hook.

Animanics (90s cartoon) did a parody of I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General from that musical. The useless things I remember...

Oh nice! They also did a Les Mis spoof, I think.

Yeah. They did a lot of spoofs, if I remember correctly. That was an awesome cartoon.
