I'll praise them with the same caveats which I apply to vegans and other such groups: I think it's a great choice for a healthy lifestyle, and I respect any individual with the dedication to stick to it. Just don't try to convert me.

I guess it depends on your definitions. The few straight-edge types I have met define drugs to include caffeine and drunkenness to include a single beer. And I'm betting their take on promiscuity would rule out a lot of the things I do with my fiancee

I am just saying that if anyone can willfully make the choice to go without any of these things, and will then continue to stand by these convictions, then I can respect that.

Frankly I feel it's needed. Most people are stupid tools who spend their lives trying to fit into a demographic and follow an idol. Putting the name straight edge gives stupid people something else to latch onto other then the existing drug culture.

For anyone that thinks that straight edge is someone who doesn't drink,smoke,do drugs you are not very well informed and have probably never gone to a hardcore show in your life.Straight Edge is an off-stem from hardcore culture,created by hardcore.You can't be a pop listening hippie and think you're straight edge.Sadly the internet tends to make people confused,and think they can claim edge without having any idea that it's a cultural movement and life long commitment based in the hardcore scene and not just a trend.Most of the people that claim edge and that have no idea what they are doing will just sell out in a few years.

And as for the other comment,yes Straight Edge is no promiscuous sex.It was born from the lyrics "I don't drink,I don't smoke,I don't fuck,at least I can fucking think"... It's about a pure body and mind,it's about not letting lust rule your life and about side stepping from the usual crap in society.I agree sometimes the religious people come in and try say it's no sex till marriage,which is bullshit.It's no sleeping around
