I rather like the twist that the protagonist the more the "evil-ish" one, a very interesting difference to most plots. I also love how Deathnote can be debated over, whether Raito/Light's choices were right or not(some people actually do agree). The idea and rules of the Deathnote is also really intriguing.
Kind of reminds me of Berserk where the good guy looks like he's a big thug toting a sword the size of a telephone pole, while the bad guy looks like a Disney prince. Reversing the good-guy-bad-guy stereotypes is awesome.

and yea death note is pretty much one of a kind... I loved L from the start to the end especially the way he act he is very well personified like how he old sheet or talk to the phone or sit....
